Dear all, I want to change the original 348 gearbox to a 355 manual gearbox. I know it is possible, but who can tell me the price for a second hand gearbox? regards Marc
Gearboxes for a 355 range anywhere from 2K needing rebuild to 5000 for a running one. I am not even talking about the ones asking 12-13K for one. I think you should be able to buy one out of a running car for under 5K. I do have one w/30k miles and it is complete. If interested send me a PM.
Be advised that he 348 gearbox and the F355 gear boxes have different mounting points on the subframe.
Andy Hill made this modification on his TS. It seems to be perfect! I love my 348, the engine is nice, the consumption is not too high. The body style is one of the best to me, like the Testarossa but with better proportion. The only bad point is the gearbox..... It seems the relability is not so good. That is the reason why I want to change it. But I want to keep my 348!!! I want to make a summary of all the part I have to modify and the price....
I paid £1,000 for one on ebay last year. It included the gearbox, clutch and flywheel. No idea of the condition, but at that price it was hard to resist.
At this price, I do not hesitate........ Tell me if i'm right. When I check on Fchat, it seems that the 355 gearbox is stronger and has a better releability. That is why I want to change. Is it true?
It is very reliable, mine broke at 160000 km althoúgh it shouldnt, layshaft bearing failed but the rest are just fine! Should not scare you,im the only guy I know with failed 355 Gearbox.
The guy I purchased the gearbox from had a 355 and his original gearbox broke so he purchased two more. One he put in his 355 and the other he kept as a spare. Apart from him, I haven't heard of any other 355 gearbox breaking. Whereas I've heard of a few 348 boxes that broke. Not sure if this is correct and perhaps someone could confirm, but the later 348's had a stronger gearbox?
