Hello all, I have had my '95 Berlinetta for about 6 months. It's very clean with only 6500 miles and it runs like a dream. The only problem that I am having is that when the engines hits a certain note, I get a very annoying vibration coming from the gear box, and I can feel it in the shifter. Has anyone had this same problem? If so, what is the fix? I opened it all up to take a look, and everything was tight.
Gearbox mounts, might be my first thought... http://www.ricambiamerica.com/product_info.php?products_id=215207 ... but that is just a wild guess. .
If the noise is just through the shifter, most likely adjustment of the shifter. if it is also through the chassis, most likely motor mounts. Regards, Jim
Welcome 355 Schwing.. sounds like it might be this: information cut/pasted off the355.com. then again, it might not be -cheers, ~T Rattling Gear Stick Some cars suffer from a rattle coming from around the gear stick area which, if you put your hand on the gear knob, can be stopped. This is caused by a worn bushing at the bottom of the gear stick and is nothing to worry about. Correction might be a lengthy process though as access is likely to be from underneath the vehicle.
Thank you for your suggestions. Since the car had it's major engine out service, and one of the engine mounts had been replaced, I don't think it's the mounts. I'll look into those bushings. Again, I really appriciate all of your suggestions.
If the car was recently serviced, then there is your answer, they need to adjust the linkage after reinstallation of the engine and trans. Take it back.
my 355 has the same sound at the stick... ferrari shop told me just the bushings and its nothing to be worried about...
I have a vibration ONLY in 3rd & 4th gears, ONLY between 4500-5000rpm. Sounds absolutely terrible. Does this describe your prob & have you fixed it successfully?
The shifter bushings may need to be replaced and the shifter aligned in the gate. I had the same issue. Very loud vibration of the shifter against the gate. After the bushings were replaced, the shifter is now quiet in all gate positions.
My car suffered from this, and my mechanic disassembled the shifter mechanism and relubed everything as it was all dry as a bone. Absolutely no parts replaced, just greased everything, and no more shifter vibration or rattle. My car had about 42,000 miles on it when he did the work and was probably never done prior, but a low-mile car like yours could still suffer from crusty grease in the shifter as it was probably correctly stored in a dry climate. My 355 child now has 47,000 miles on it and is driven regularly with no more annoying shift rattles, absolutely one of the 355 must-do's... along with stickies, seatbelts, parking brake, floor mat mounts, etc... Dear God, we love our cars!!
