Having a significant amount of the interior of my car redone. While we were at it I decided the GTS top headliner inserts should have their ratty cloth replaced with leather that matches the rest of the interior. Just had my leather guy over to do the install of the custom parts he fabricated.

Essentially we replaced the floppy plastic substrate with marine board, custom cut to match the existing inserts. These were wrapped with Saddle leather, then glued in place of the existing inserts, backed with a similar 1/4" foam that was originally in place. You can see in the comparison shot how much better it looks than the cloth.

First shot is the install of one panel (other side covered in plastic for protection during the fabrication time).
Second shot compares the leather with the OEM cloth.
Third shot shows completed GTS top with leather installed on both sides.

Much happier and a much more quality look (IMO). I understand why Ferrari probably didn't do it this way OEM as I'll now have to keep a piece of cloth between the top and the ECU covers (when driving with the top stored behind the seats), otherwise the two surfaces of leather will wear on one another. But I think they could have worked around that as well and provided a much more upscale look for the cabin ceiling.

My 98 F1 GTS came with leather on the roof panel. It was an option on the window sticker

Im in the process of doing this too on my spare GTS targa panel. As McJoe stated, it was a very rarely specced option to have the lining in leather matching the rest of the car.

I'm not a big believer in cosmetic mods unless you're truly making something better and not just changing something for the sake of change. That certainly qualifies as making something better-- it looks fantastic and like it could have very easily come from the factory that way. Love it.

Thanks Joe, good to know. Every car I've seen (GTS or B) all had the cloth.

Do you store your top behind the seats? And, if so, do you have rub marks in the top and/or the ECU covers?

I've tried to put the top behind the seats but I like the seat back more than allowed with the top stoed so I don't do it anymore.

And yes, I also did not like the idea of the top rubbing on the seats.

How about the 2 cloth roof liners behind the rear window.

Now they don't match the roof!!!

Yes it was an option to have leather head lining on the roof on the Berlinetta too.

How do you like the guy who's doing the work? Think he's good? If so, would you let me know who you're using?
