The removable top on the 355 GTS has a tendancy to rattle. Has anyone developed techniques/fixes to be able to reduce/eliminate the rattle?

Remove the roof, and rub Vaseline (petroleum based moisturising gel) onto the seals from time to time before refitting- keeps my roof nice and quiet.

BMW dealers carry a product called Gummi Phledge (spelling?) that is even better than vasoline. I'm not sure a 355 GTS will ever be rattle-free, especially as its warming up, but this stuff makes a huge difference.

There is also a way to adjust the pins in the rear, if yours are not set right it could cause a rattle. Do a search on here as I remember a thread on this a while back.

First, make sure your pins are in good shape. If cracked, or broken off tips, get replacements. It has been mentioned that one can add/subtract shims from under the clamps to tighten/loosen the fit at the forward end. Beyond that, it may be time to repace some of the rubber and foam seals.

Are we talking squeaking or rattling ?
Rattling means play in my semantic world, while i speculate squeaks result from the torsional efforts in the roof structure ?

Thanks for the replies and tricks. The Vaseline petroleum jelly in the metal pin recepticles in the rear and additional jelly on the metal front latches worked great for me. Hope this helps others with a squeek/rattle. Of coarse when it stops raining and warms up the "Top Off" suggestion is the best.
