Gents Is there a big difference in driving sound pleasure between the 2. Is the sound in the GTS(with top off) that much better than the Berlinetta. I have read some posts where people say the engine tone/sound is muted in the B versus the spyder and GTS. Personally I think the B is the best looking 355 but is there much of a give up in engine sound acoustics and overall enjoyment. Thanks Bjm
All depends on what you would like your car to be for. Track and performance driving you want the B. Better for corners, canyons ect. Spider is a great cruising car. Not great for track, in fact some groups do not allow convertibles at all. GTS is a good alternative between both. Has better stiffness yet is open to a certain degree. However for the die-hard convertible lovers not enough open and for trackys too much twisting. now have fun making sense of all that
Miami, I cannot seem to put my finger on it but it seems to take longer to read your posts than others. I think....just maybe, that there is some sort of overall distraction associated with your words. I dunno. Am I the only one? DL
GTS all the way...at least thats the direction Im going. It has the rigidity and safety of a hard top but the open air fun of a spider. Im suprised the GTS option was never really that popular on 355s?
I originally wanted a GTS but was told by numerous specialist dealers that this was the least stiff. Apparently ferrari felt that the chassis was stiff enough not to need additional strengthening for the GTS which led to more flex. In creating the spider they did stiffen the chassis which made it stiffer than the GTS ! This should only matter if you want to do many track days. The B does mute the exhaust note and so does the GTS. If you do want to cruise and enjoy all your senses then the Spider is the ticket
urgh, between Martin, Allan, and Dave my attempts at peace among the avatars is futile. Watching it entrances me and I... <snnooooze>
After thinking about it somemore I definitely think the B is the best looking. I am not into the spyder thing in any car. Whenever I see a guy driving a convertible I think to myself theres a guy out for a spin in the wife's car! LOL!! I can always put the window down to hear the sound better.
I have been into B, GTS, & Conv., and of course, Conv. sounds best. I personally like GTS best for 355, but some GTS I saw are all over $110G, whichi is closer to Conv. Sellers say GTS is more rare model for 355. If engine sound is the main thing, go with Conv. Styling-wise, I also think B looks best, too. If you want both of them, GTS is my choice. If I can drive now, I would be definitely checking this GTS at Lineback Leasing for $89K.
Tiger you are right, not a bad deal at Lineback, but I dont like that silver/ gray color at all. Fly yellow is the color of choice for me.
I personally like the Berlinetta the best. I dont really care for an open top that much, and i think it looks nice and smooth with the hard top.
Get the GTS and have the top sprayed body color, then you've got the best of both worlds. If you're not tracking the car, you won't likely notice flex differences on normal street driving.
I have a 348ts and find myself taking the top off whenever I can. i can't stand convertibles, I think it ruins the lines of the car, plus noisy when the top is up. A TS is a great option! Vincent.
Can some of the board members with the Berlinetta post their cars in the "showroom"? From the tone of this thread more than a few of us would like to put the GTS and Berlinetta side by side. Of particular interest is a GTS with the room painted body color. Personally am closly following the Black Berlinetta market.
Throttleman Have you seen this very nice black B. http://www.dupontregistry.com/search/srDetails.asp?itemid=127964&sessionkey={17B453B4-1261-40EB-8079-B137B55B93F2}
I have a 355 GTS F1 (yellow) and it is great. I almost never drive it with the top on. With a tubi exhaust it sounds great. I agree that having the top painted in the body color is the way to go.
