Well, I have become a victim of the dreaded header leak. So I was looking for some opinions on Fabspeed and Tubi headers and how availability has been lately with these brands? Share any experience, good or bad regarding these. I figure going aftermarket will resolve the issue rather than replacing with factory and possibly experience the problem again.

You've got lots of options. If the leak isn't too large you can just have your existing headers welded back into working order (with patches around the obvious high heat zones to prevent repetition of your issue). Just do the welds with the headers *off* of the car. Cost is typically around $100. Same day turn-around.

If the leak is large, on the other hand...

QV London has an inexpensive set of replacement headers for 355's, and there is at least one set that will give you a +10 hp improvement (can't remember if it was QV London or Tubi or Fab Speed or MVP or someone else, though).

Consider posting a picture of your leak here.

Not too worried about gain in HP but mainly the quality so it doesn't happen again. Already have Tubi exhaust so figured to match the set up with the headers as well. Kind of hard to find from what I've been experiencing, or maybe I haven't gone to the right places. Will keep checking though.

I have not heard of patching as an acceptable solution. I HAVE heard of a few people with patched or welded up manifolds subsequently having to replace them. The Tubi street version of the exhaust manifolds (which have heat sheilds) appear to be awesome, but difficult to obtain, due to their not being EPA certified. So Tubi is only supplying them in limited quantities for off road use only, at least this is what has been discussed on this site.

No idea on the Fabspeed, but if they do not have heatsheilds, you will need to fabricate something to at least protect your alternator, and better yet, the entire engine compartment from the heat, or it will speed up the damage to all the rubber and plastic bits in the compartment. I have stock exhaust manifolds (rebuilt by QV London) and even WITH the heat shields, all the rubber boots on the AMP Junior Timer electrical connectors are rotted and split from the heat. Can you imagine how quickly that stuff will crumble with no heat sheilds?

Anyone has more about the F355 headers replacement. I just got a quote from Nick Forza on a set of Tubi headers, and it is way too much $$$, but it seems like Tubi is the only one that has the heat shields.../// Anyone had put their own heat shields on the Fabspeed headers? It seems to be good price, but just missing the shields.

how much did they want for those tubi headers, and how do you know when they break, or something is going wrong with them?

Evans automotive stocks the QV replacement headers, who re-install the stock heat shields. 2k per header

$5699 per set.../// It is a matter of time before it fails. There are many threads on this topic already!

I put Tubi Headers on during my engine out and have a Tubi exhaust. Mine started to fail, (crack-pop-hiss), around 33K miles.
    They are awesome.

If you want your headers to stay "stock" with the heat shields in place, I would send them off to QV London to have them fixed, as f355spider suggested. They will have the headers completely remade and then put the stock shielding back on. But before they put the shields back on, I would have the headers internally and externally ceramic coated to help reduce the heat even more.

I have just seen a set of those fabspeed headers being installed on a 355....... I did not expect to be impressed but I was :)!

They had stainless cast flanges with the link over pieces just like factory.

The bends are symetrical for both sides.

They fit very well and access to the nuts/studs was better than factory.

The tubes were upsized to 1.625" from the 1.500" tubes of the factory.

The closest tube to the alternator was over 4" away! that is a bit more than the 1" I have seen on another aftermarket set.

The collector apeared to be made of heavy wall stainless, which would help durability.

The price was lower than any other header I have seen for the 355 and no backlog!!

The downsides I am aware of is the short or no warranty and no dyno numbers that I am aware of.

BTW I have no connection with fabspeed and if my 355 headers ever fail these are currently at the top of my list!!

I think I am with you oz, Fabspeed looks good to me except I need someone to fab up some shields. Any suggestion? Or just go with ceramic coating and heat wrap combo with these Fabspeed headers?

If/when I get these headers I will be using the black 2100F ceramic coating. THe silver stuff is only rated at about 1500F.

I don't think these will get as hot as they have the slightly larger tubing. More metal around the same amount of air and the velocity will slow a tad....... though upper RPM HP may be gained because of the larger tubing.... :)

As for the shields........ Is your reason for the 'stock look' or do you want to protect underlid components from heat?

Goth, Is the black coating you speak of a do it yourself deal or you send them out to have done? If it is send out--Who does it?

I would love to see before and after dyno numbers...I am curious what the tube diameter does to scavenging/velocity and ultimately hp/torque

Oz, I read about the alternator failure, and other elect. issue related to heat from open headers that is why I don't wanna leave it exposed/

Capristo is creating headers for the F355 at the moment.
Their goal is to create not only good looking headers. They also want to find
some more torque and power...............therefore wait 2 or 3 weeks.
