Whose kit did you use? Did you have to make any irreversible changes to make it work? What about current draw? Is it the same as for the stock headlamps, or did you need a higher current fuse and heavier wiring to accommodate the HID lights?

Direct replacement kit that plugs in to the existing harness. no changes to fuse/ relays. You can easily revert the system back to using the original bulbs. wattage of the bulbs is lower compared to stock, 35w as opposed to 55w. Curent draw is approx 3.5a

The only irreversible change is to the cap on the back of the headlight. As the xenon bulbs are longer. So, you have to use a 25mm hole cutter to accomodate the longer bulb.

Kit from UK Ebayer. However, there are tons of these on the web. So have a look around.

    Cheers

Looks great! I installed the HID kit, too, but my marker lights now look a dull yellow when compared to the low beams. Did you change your marker lights? If so, do you mind sharing what bulbs you used and where you purchased them? Thanks!

Here's a link I found on eBay. Just click on either the low or high beam number on the F355 section to be directed to the HID section (with 3 models to choose from). LINK: http://www.xtralights.com/index.asp?PageAction=Custom&ID=31

They also sell other bulb types (e.g., side marker, brake, etc.)

Sure did. I did mine the other way around. Changed the side lights first to white LED bulbs then thought how pants the low beams looked. I got a direct white LED replacement bulb (R5W) from the below Ebay shop. No afflilliation etc, other suppliers available, etc.

I remember doing this to my 355, but i did it to the fogs. I used I recall a 9006 bulb cause the stock bulbs were mounted in some 9006 type plastic mount, if i recall.

I also got the 6000K from here
    http://www.carhidkits.com/ferrari-73/f355-hid-kit-163/

It still working 1 year later, I might consider doing the headlights now, seeing how good they look.

Would be very useful to see the beam pattern on a wall versus the normal bulb.

The thing about these HID kits is to not go over board and get more than the 6k illumination (it is just a touch brighter than stock bulbs). 8k is the extreme max anyone should go. Beam pattern is all about the lens.

I put two sets in my Audi A4 and they work great. I installed 8k in headlights and 8k in my fogs. The 8k is great in the head lights because of the head light diffusers. The fog lights are clear with no diffusers and man are they bright (I don't use them too often).

If your interested in doing the "conversion" from an ebay source, just find a seller that offers lifetime guarantee replacements and has sold a lot of them with a really high "good seller" rate. Also, try to get a kit that is "slim."

Lastly, my Audi was always throwing fog lights out codes when I installed the 35 watt HID kit. The solution was to purchase a 55w HID kit, for the ECU was wattage sensitive when it came to the fog lights. The guy I dealt with on ebay exchanged them with absolutely no hassle.

    It is a nice upgrade.

"k" is not an indication of brightness, directly. It does give you an idea of the color. In fact, the opposite of what you imply is true. The higher the "k" number the LOWER the light output.

HID's are more than "a touch" brighter than standard bulbs and that's why, by law in the U.S., they must be motorized to automatically aim lower as the back seats or trunk of a car are "loaded" which causes the front end (along with the light beams) to go upward. End result is that they stay at the correct alignment and don't cause even more blinding to on-coming drivers.

Beam pattern is in no way simpy "all about the lens."

Here's an often provided (and very good) link on the subject:
