Received my 4 new struts from Ricambi and started to install them. Before doing anything I thought I would check the new ones by compressing them - but I can't(!) All 4 seem to be locked. Am I stupid or what?

Is there something I have to do before they will compress? Some hidden locking feature? All 4 are the same (locked), so I doubt that all 4 could be faulty.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Just install them. You will see that they work fine.

I doubt you will be able to compress them by hand.

As mentioned, just install them, they are pretty firm,
Make sure you put them in as factory did, gas cylinders on the top, in engine compartment at least. Can't recall which way hood struts went. Just in case a previous owner/ shop put them in wrong last time.

Just make sure that you don't take the nuts off as so many of us did before we realized that the small retaining clips are all that need to be removed before taking off and putting on the new struts.

If you don't mind the fact that the nuts on the modern replacements have a different plating/finish.

I just did my front struts with the SG ones.
    the old just pop off.
It's nice when the hood stays up by itself :)
