Hey guys, when I start my car, it turns over like 3 times then starts. Is this normal? If not, should I look at an aftermarket ignition? Should I just buy a new stock one? Thanks for the help guys.

Just a quick question mate.............How do you know its ignition related? :p Maybe you should have someone look at it 1st before you buy anything for it. :)

The more likely problem is that your "dual-mass" flywheel needs service and the signal(s) from the flywheel sensor(s) is(are) detected as "not quite right" by the ignition ECU so it doesn't fire intentionally.

But explain your symptom a bit more -- by "3 times" do you mean that a typical warm start sequence is:

cranking for many seconds (more than usual on a "normal" working car)
    stop
    cranking for many seconds
    stop
    cranking for many seconds
    and it starts?

Has the problem been getting worse with time?

Is the problem not quite so bad when cold?

Try a search on "355 flywheel" -- unfortunately, there are many good posts on this problem (but don't guess -- either you or a Mechanic needs to determine the real underlying cause).

My 95 does the same thing. Are you saying that it is the crank sensor that needs replacing or poor conection?

No, he is saying that the flywheel is causing the sensor to receive erratic signals. Like his post said, do a search on "355 flywheel", and you will see what the problem is.

Don't get fancy -- just open the search box and enter "355 flywheel" (without the quotes). Should get you 73 threads with many good ones like this:

see post #9 for some useful pictures.

Although sometimes the mechanical absurdity is part of the F charm, for the minor "benefit" (if you can call it that), the complexity of this feature, plus the need for periodic service, is unavoidable trouble.

Sorry to be a pain but when I type in 355 flywheel in this forum all I get is the current thread. I have used this search button many times on other subjects, so I am confused as why I am not getting the 76 results you are getting.
