I just noticed that at night time when I turn my headlamps on I get a slight flickering on the dash and center counsel. It usually happens if I hit a bump in the road. It seems like, if the lights go off, I can tap on the speedometer housing and they will come back on. I assume its a loose connection somewhere, but not sure where. I guess it could be anywhere but maybe I should start near the speedometer housing.
Anyone else with a similar problem. Or anyone can get me going in the right direction?

    Thanks

It happened to me as well and I checked the fuses and made sure they were seated well. Old 911s (60s -70s) had that problem as well. That worked for a while but now its doing it again so if anyone as a suggestion...

If the lights are flickering, it could be the voltage control regulator on the alternator.

However, that said, if the lights go out .. and you tap the speedo and on they come .... ain't the regulator!

Does anyone know if there are some ground wires behind the speedo. Because it sems to be related to the speedo area, I was thinking about trying there first.

I actually was behind the instrument panel just yesterday - ... Had a little bulb I wanted to replace (airbag light bulb).

Could be the connection for the overall illumination back there - I actually had one or two that were not "tight" - but did not appear to cause any flickering...

Here is what you do to check - and it is a 10 minute job (and easy). There are two scres just underneath the oval leather unit (which I will call the Speedo housing area). One one each side of the steering wheel.

Take those out... At this point you will notice the entire leather Speedo Housing will come off to the left - toward the drivers side in the US. Just enough for you to look behind and work back there...

At this point you can check all your connections and replace any bulbs, etc.

Get yourself a nice work light or flashlight - The screws are beteen the Leather Speedo housing and the leather trim just below it - and painted back which they are hard to see at first...

Also - since there is not copious space to have a ton of room when you free the Speedo Housing - you will need a flashlight to see all the connections (which there are like 20...)

    Hope that helps...

    Rich

Thanks, it seems like an easy job, and the most likely place to start.
