Guys, I've been away in NZ for the last two months. The day before I left in November my immobiliser refused to de-activate (thankfully inside my garage) and I have today discovered I still have the same problem.

I only have one key fob and I do not have the over-ride code. Just got off the phone to Marenello service dept who said they cant give me my override code.

Key fob is working fine, unlocks the doors and the car battery is fully charged so I'm almost certain it's the stupid immobiliser.

    Any suggestions?

Not sure if its the same thing but I have had a similar problem a few times recently on my 355, once when it was down being Serviced at QV. Phil told me hes seen it a few times on different models recently and its caused by interference from phone masts ... think in particular Orange. We simply pushed the car down the road and it worked ok. I have since learned the manual overide code !!

If you can lock and unlock the doors it sounds to me like your immobiliser is faulty. Thus you might have to call someone out to come and fix it.

In case it helps any, the aerial for the alarm/immobiliser system is behind the leather panel which is in turn behind the passenger seat (on a RHD car). Tip the passenger seat forward and try pressing the button with the keyfob up close to that panel.

Happened to me in a tesco's car park right by a phone mast, I pushed the car a few feet and it de-activated.

Silly question I know but is the battery in the car OK and more importantly check the fobs battery.

Sounds daft but might be worth a try,but hold the immobiliser fob against your chin whilst activating it.Something about using the skelton as an aerial to boost the signal.Clarkson tried it with his Merc and it boosted the range/signal.No this is not a wind up it does work

This is the most funny thing I have heard in a long time...

Just trying to work out the physics of a RF frequency and the interation/reaction to the human body - and how the amplification would work... Which I believe your body would actually absorb more rather than help.

This reminds me of someone saying that you could have someone call you on your mobile phone - and if they had your (or your spare) alarm fob - they could press the unlock button on their side of the phone (regardless of how far they are away from your car/you ) - and if you hold your mobile phone next to the car - it will open via the transmitted signal across the digital phone signal... (of course I tried this - and no it doesn't work - how cool would that be - if you locked your keys in your car - call up your wife and have her beam the unlock frequency).

Of course - when you can't get your car to work - I would try it or anything really :)

    Just a little FYI -

I use a RF Directv remote to control the receiver in a different room. If the batt. is low or signal not reaching I can place the remote on my head and it will work. This isn't something I do regularly but tried and tested.............

BTW-- I'm not saying this has anything to do with your issue.

The human body can actually change the way the RF works. Something to do with saline solutions changing the total capacitance of the transmittor. Picked that useful bit of information up when I worked for Motorola making keyless entry systems for Peugeot / Rover. Can't remember if it helps or hinders, though!

Blimey, sounds like you'd be frying yourself :)

Has anyone actually had to take theirs apart (to change battery etc). As mine has a lose connection and works intermittently so I need to investigate...?

PS: Haven't taken the Ferrair one apart yet, but it's probably worht you doing it. May just be low tension in the spring that secures the battery. Some fettling with your fingers could see that right!
