My 355 indicator (turn signal for people in the US) only makes a clicking noise when the left indicator is on. When indicating right, there's no click.

I've had a fish around under the dash and found the part making the click, behind the dash just below the right-hand air vent. I've found another, similar part that is silent, again behind the dash, just to the left of the steering column. It's marked "12V 537 segnalatore acoustico". It appears to be Ferrari part no. 171798. Thing is, at over £100 for a new one, I want to be sure it'll actually fix the problem before I buy it.

So, those of you with two clicking indicators, does the click for the right indicator really emanate from a different box to the click for the left indicator?

I'm not a 355 guy but in a "normal" car you have one flasher relay for the turn indicators (both sides) and one for the hazards. I suspect that the second one you found was the hazard relay.

Does the indicator in the instrument cluster illuminate with the turn switch in both positions? How about the right turn indicator lamps-- do they light up at all?

Everything works perfectly except for that one click. Both dash lights, all exterior lamps and the hazard warning click (which comes from the functioning clicker) are spot on.

I was wondering if there's actually a separate part per side and they should both click when the hazards are on.

I know it's not the biggest problem ever, but my OCD can't take it, I'd rather neither side worked!

It seems that the part I have in my hand is a warning buzzer for the brakes - I assume it is triggered when there is an ABS fault. So, I suppose I have a problem with the single flasher relay.

So when you place the turn signal switch into the right position, both of the right turn indicator lamps and the instrument cluster repeater lamp all illuminate but do not flash, is that correct?

Have you changed the turn signal lamps recently? It sounds like it could be a lamp (bulb) problem.

Steve, the item you hear clicking now is the only item which clicks for both left and right turns (there are no independent clickers for left and right turns). The clicker is called an "accoustic repeater" (in Italian) and is found on earlier cars (prior to car assembly number 24038). My later model car doesn't have it fitted. My turn relay module is loud enough without a repeater.

Do not change the other item you found. As previously mentioned, this has another function.

I haven't got a circuit for the internals of the accoustic repeater, but there must be some way the left and right turn signals are isolated from each other. There may be a failure inside this unit, but before buying a new one, I would first make sure there is a voltage (12v) getting to the repeater unit from the turn relay during a right hand turn.

Looking at the (Euro-based) wiring diagram...

    The inputs are as follows:

    Pin 1 = not used
Pin 2 = earth (black wire)
Pin 3 = right hand turn signal (blue wire)
    Pin 4 = hazard (red/green wire)
Pin 5 = left hand turn (blue/black wire)

Find a good earth when checking the voltage. The steering column unpainted base can be used (but push hard).

Can you confirm that the right hand turn flash rate is ok (and all the lights are working, including the side repeater light? Mike may be correct if the lights are also playing up.

    Hope this helps
    Cheers
    Ian.

P.S. In case the accoustic repeater is faulty, it has a part number #157498

Eurospares show a second hand one for UKP 25.88 plus P&H, VAT, etc. New ones may be hard to find.

Thanks for that Ian, I'll dust off my multimeter.
