    I'm debating buying a late 90s 355. A ? for Current or Past Owners.

Could you give me Pros & Cons on this Vehicle ???

What Scheduled maintenance is required ?

Any Glitches or Regular Problems ?

Any significant differences between the years produced ?

Thanks in advance for any info or advice.

Welcome aboard...and btw, the 355 is a nice choice if I may say so myself.

    Cheers,

I have a near perfect replica 355 that you can have for a fraction of the cost of the real thing. Most will never know it's not a real Ferrari:

Husker - Do not tease the new people :)

1Turbo - As mentioned there is a lot of great info in the Archives about the 355's.

1.) When buying (assuming this may be your first F-car) - make sure you get a PPI (pre purchase inspection) by a reputable mechanic. If you go to look at a car - let us know where it is and we can tell you the best Service Shops in that area.

2.) All 355's should have the 30K (full engine out) service regardless of miles. Make sure you see the records for the 30K serice. (Every 3 - 5 years the 355 should have a 30K AKA Full engine out service).

3.) Look in Ferrari Ads (which has a lot of members of F-chat) cars for sale - just above on the title banner - click Ferrari Ads. Since most of what is for sale here - is from members - you can find a lot about the cars for sale with a quick search.

    Hope that helps,
    Rich

Great info & Tips Rich, Thanks.
    I have never owned a F-Car, so i am a "rookie" @ this.
As far as Service, Wynn Las Vegas is opening this April. They will have a Ferrari/Maserati Dealership on Property.
What is your or other owners opinion of their Mechanics ?
Do you have your own Tuner ?

    1Turbo -

I think I have tried everyone in my region - I ended up going to an independent shop. There are many choices out there - some dealers are good, some really bad. Same with some independents as well.

I will promise that of the many members on this board - once you get your car - you will be able to ask (in your area) who is best, price, etc.

On some of the older F-cars - i had a few people - depending on what needed done. The 355 - I just have one (after many) - that I trust and always overdelivers and undercharges for what I feel I get.

Do not be surprised and do not think it is bad that it may take many months to find "your" car. You will get the "bug" once you start looking and are committed to buying one - but hold back the impulses - wait for the prefect car for you... There are many out there.

The one thing that many of us have seen - is a new F-car enthusiast that gets a car that is not well sorted (even though it may look perfect) - and you end up with it in the shop for a long period - when you first get it - with big service costs. Nothing ruins what should be the most exciting car experience you will probably ever have ===> your first FERRARI! Many of us have had many - but I can say that my first was still the most exciting. I would sit in my garage in my fully dismantled 67 GTC for hours, work on it every weekend, etc.

The 355 is one of the most fun "modern" F-cars you will find (and really well priced) and without question still an attentention grabber to the extreme.

Your best be when purchasing is to look privately or from a RESPECTED Dealer - we can help you here as well. As mentioned get a PPI done - that cost about $300 and you may have to go through a few cars before you get the one that is well sorted - but $300 is much better than a backend cost of 10K if you get a bad one that needs a lot of work.

Many members here have 355's - and you will also see some of us selling ours moving on to the next one. (shameless promotion start) - Like mine for example is for sale - listed in Ferrariads (above) - however there are a few of us members with one for sale - and you can get a lot of the history, repairs, and people you are dealing with right here on this site - which is a good start. Let me know if you are interested.

But either way - you should join the site once you are serious - help support the cause and also do as much reading, etc that you can on the 355 - knowledge is power and knowledge in the F-car market is money saved :)

Enjoy the search - it is part of the fun of F-car ownership.

    Rich

Awesome & accurate advice thus far...good job guys!

Just bought mine. Two words: MAGNIFICIENT GRATIFICATION

There is something about these cars that can not be described with words. You are buying a piece of machinery that truly encompasses the very essence of.......... I am incapable of completing this paragraph.

Be patient, have faith that the right car will find you, take the advice given here...and start clearing a place in your garage and when people ask merely explain that you're "expecting". This car will complete you.
