As most 355 owners know, (if one actually drives the car) ... the inner CV boots have at one time or another gone bad, have been replaced and unfortunately will go bad again :( ..... anyone who has replaced these, knows it is not a small job.

So after my replacing my second set of deformed and cracked inner CV boots ... I wondered why these boots live such a short life ..... after all, they do not deal with big angle excursions ... and they seem to be made of a good material ... at least they appear that way when new ...

Looking into the engine compartment ... we see the headers on most 355s are shielded in that area ... the boots have factory ... s h i e l d s  ................ EXCEPT where the boots are actually exposed to an UN-shielded part of the exhaust ..... the catalytic converters ....

Using a flash light and looking through the inboard side of the diffuser .... one can see the CV boot and how it is clearly exposed to the front part of the unshielded cat, which is only several inches away ...... if this heat exposure is not why the inner CV boots die ... I do not know what is .... especially since the seemingly immortal outer boots are identical in material .... except the outer boots reside a lot further away from that exhaust heat radiation.

This time around, I wasn't going to let my newly installed CV boots suffer an untimely death ..... so I created a nice ambidextrous CV shield, which protects the CV boot more completely than the factory shield ..... :)

Here are some pics of the factory CV shield versus the new Goth CV shield .....

Dang! Those are nice! Plus you can use them as epaulettes on your Iron Man costume. So how did you make the square holes? A punch?

Goth, awesome job! I actually brought this issue up, upon the replacement of my SECOND set of inner CV boots three or so years ago....I suggested someone needed to come up with a better design that offered more coverage. Hats off to you for offering the solution. :)

Perfect example of something that would be beneficial to us owners here in the fchat community but perhaps the op is refraining from announcing it for fear that he may be reprimanded.

I would buy a set and then ceramic coat them.
