New to the forum, and as my name implies no Ferrari yet. Style-wise I want the 360, but the wallet says 355 (and even that is a stretch). My question is this, just how much maintenance can be done on our own? I'm not afraid of wrenches or laptops, but wouldn't want to deal with dropping an engine. On my STi upgraded everything from intake to turbo, headers, full exhaust, driveshaft, you name it. So can some $$$ be saved through owner maintenance?

Dropping the engine in a 355 is less daunting than in some other cars. There is an excellent step by step here on F chat. Of course once it's out, working on it is so much easier. If I don't sell mine soon I'll be doing a major myself. If you live in LA you're more than welcome to come and learn with me.

From the interest in my last post, looks like we need a 355 brotherhood! It's also looking like I will do my own major service soon, so all SoCal locals will be invited to come over and look on... er... I mean help!

No-one want to buy my 355 before I have to do this major myself?

Let me know, I would like to help/look on ;) when you take the motor out/down. When I am up for my next major in a few years. I think the knowledge/practice would serve me well.

I always drive above my abilities, autocrossing for 3 seasons!! And means is all relative of course...I mean I could buy a 360 but not sure I want that much $$$ tied up in a car...and I *should* send the kids to college I suppose....

And thanks for the offer Dave on the engine drop, but I'm in CT. At least take some pics!

For now I'll browse the forum and keep learning...and if any CT area guys in the forum are selling their 355 shoot me a PM to talk about it.
