I'm considering an aftermarket muffler for my 355 and I was curious...with all the choices out there, ANSA, MILLE MIGLIA, CAPRISTO, CSC, Fuchs, Quicksilver and Eurosports/EuroSpares. What are you people running on your 355s? Do you like it? What would you recommend?

    Thanks!

TUBI is the only way to go on a 355 IMHO

I'd recommend saving my money for the essential i.e. the significant likelihood of seeing either or both of your manifolds crack and leak. Considering an aftermarket 355 exhaust by replacing the muffler only and not the headers is a mistake in my opinion & experience. Btw, I am interested in advice on aftermarket headers ...

    ze shark,

After having my driver's side crack and spew insulation all over my engine I contacted QV London and spoke with them about their solution. Basically they feel the original construction is a joke with it's thin gauge, non stainless steel which isn't a question of if it will crack but when. I have decided to send them both of my manifolds and will document their process but essentially they rebuild the manifolds with thicker stainless and have done over 20 pairs without even so much as a complaint even from challenge cars.

I put a Challenge muffler on my 355-not the open pipes but the mufflers they ran at places like Lime Rock. It is much smaller and lighter than the original, sounds good but not too loud and cost much less than the aftermarket mufflers. Of course it was used but in good condition. I left the cats alone.
The exhaust manifolds are junk. My 98 has the fourth one on the passenger side and the second one on the driver side. Ferrari did give me the last muffler(and replaced the previous ones under warranty) but only after a hassle and then I had to pay to have it installed. This manifold situation for 355s is a disgrace and no one would tolerate it from any other manufacturer and I do not know why we do from Ferrari. I have owned Ferraris for over 25 years and never seen such a recurring problem, though I am sure they do exist.
355 owners should join in a force Ferrari to recall and replace the manifolds with something other than the originals which are all going to fail and perhaps cause more damage.

    I've ordered a Tubi...

However, I really liked the Capristo sound from the videoclip I've got.

I guess I went with the Tubi because they are well tried and tested, and have a close relationship with Ferrari. The sound is great, and they seem to be well liked by Fchatters.

That said, everyone has their favourite; try to hear a few 'in the metal' (I suspect that videoclips are only so much use) and go with whichever YOU like.

Give some thought to how it sounds at all rev ranges, and whether resonance will annoy you if you drive lots of highway/city miles.

    Robert.

Try Supertrapps and see if you like them before spending all that money on a Tubi. You can get two 4 or 5 inch Supertrapps for a few hundred dollars and you may just like them better. All is you have to do is plumb the Supertrapps directly from your headers allowing the Supertrapps to stick out the same openings where your tailpipes are now. They look and sound great too. I heard a 355 at Road Atlanta a few years back with Supertrapps and it sounded GREAT! Plus, they are even lighter than the others you mentioned like Tubi. Once I need new mufflers for my Boxer, I'm going with Supertrapps myself. see www.supertrapp.com or www.racerpartswholesale.com
