I searched but can't seem to find a thread that addresses this problem. I went to start my car after it has been sitting for about a month. It has good power as it has been on a trickle charger but it will not trurn over at all. All lights come on and a loud ticking sound is coming from the front of the car when I try to start it but the engine does not trun over at all. Any help would be very appreciated.

Basics first...you disabled the immobilizer, yes? And what is the red light doing on the center vent? Also, have you actually load tested the battery? While a battery tender improves the chance the battery will not be flat...it may still be.

Yes, I've had a loud ticking sound trying to start my Firebird with a weak battery. How old is the battery? Of course in a 355 that sound would come from the rear of the car...

Alarm light flashes but does go out as normal when I hit the key fob before attempting to start. I did not load test the battery but all light to include the headlights come on bright and all appears normal. I will look at a new battery as it is 4 years old but I am just confused by the ticking from the front not in the back near the starter or anything for that matter I guess other than relays.
I forgot to ask by immobilizer do you mean the alarm? If not I maybe really missing some need to know info.

ticking up front? maybe the ABS pump? (unless it's some electronic ticking sound coming from the siren do to a defect).

    Scott,

There are just so many threads which talk about weird symptoms associated with non-starting that I think you have already been given the most likely cause. Batteries fall below par (even if kept on a tender) - they can start other makes but our beloved Ferraris need the full amperage. Buy a new battery to at least eliminate that side.
Odds on that it will cure the problem - but let us know anyway! Good luck.

Do you have the ticking sound in the accessories/run position of the ignition key or only once you turn it all the way to the spring-loaded "start" position (to crank the engine)?

Only while in the start position. Good news though but really not sure what exactly it was.
I replaced the battery with the optima 34r and as soon as I removed the negative termninal a small black wire literally disintegrated from the clip. I am not sure if it was for the alarm or maybe the trickle charger but I suspect it had power when only low voltage was passing through it and it gapped under a higher stress amp. Or the battery was just going bad but either way it works perfect now. I replaced the connection while changing the battery and """"" It Started all day today, no issues at all, alarm works perfect and the work was fun to do in the new to me garage.
Thanks to all you guys who tried to help. I own you guys a bunch. Thanks again!!!!!!!!

Can't stand it when I get in a hurry typing and make stupid spelling mistakes. This was not the only one I noticed I typed but it was the most recent on this thread.

Yes Sir! You are exactly correct. It is inspirational to see people who for nothing more than kindness are willing to take time out of their own busy lives to help another that most of the time they have never even met. I hope I can simply "pay it forward or pay it back ten fold to another in need someday"

Scott, thanks for the follow up. First I have heard of the black wire breaking, but well known the red one can...which is the "S" wire back to the alternator...which prevents charging of the battery when broken! Is the black wire molded into the lead battery clamp like the red one? Sounds like for reliability, both wires should be clipped from each clamp, and a stake-on ring mount attached and then the ring mount can be slipped through the bolt that tightens the clamps to the battery...that would be a permanent fix for these issues of the wires breaking off from the lead clamps.

Funny you ask it was not molded to the negative cable. I should have posted a pic but it was simply a wire attached to a closed ring that attached by the tightening nut and bolt on the negative terminal. I really think what happened was the connection was for the factory tender (or whatever tender it is because it has a Ferrari emblem on it) installed next to the power shut off under the cover on the passenger side front. I think the battery simply was low of charge due to the disintegrated connection and the clicking was probably power from the trickle charger trying to assist the engine start. Just a theory but it is about the only theory I can image that would make sense. Especially because there was enough power to make the headlights and dash appear normal but yet not enough to even turn over the engine at all. Regardless once I put a new ring clamp on the black wire and reattached everything to the new battery everything seems to be perfect. Thanks again. I really was stressed over the problem. I guess I am excessive compulsive because I just have to have something fixed as soon as possible if I know its not working correctly. Hope it might help someone else in the future. I guess the moral of the story is I should have been simply smart enough to volt check the battery manually before making such a big deal here!!!!!!!
