Hi, I have a 1995 355 Spider. It doesn't have an alarm system. Has anyone installed either the oem or an aftermarket in these and if so have any comments. Thanks, John
Aftermarket alarms were necessary in 1995. Most cars from that time had installed a brand called UNCO. You may want to check with a dealer for more information. Best, Pino
Thanks, but I am wondering now if anyone in the Houston area has had an alarm installed in a Ferrari and could recommend someone?
I just bought a F355 a few weeks ago and everyone I talked to recommended against installing a alarm. So I just got a keyless entry installed and the thing is these guys could have charged me for it and made money but they had my best interests in mind...refreshing huh? I guess it is due to the electrical issues that can arise and the reality of how many Ferrari's are actually stolen. If they want it they will put it on a flat bed in 22 seconds and be gone. Just my opinion. -Armen
The brand was called UNGO back in 1995 (for a little clarification)...If your going to put an alarm, go with anything made by DEI...preferably Viper or Clifford...I would buy it from Best Buy personally and have them install it. They cover their installs for life, they have the skematics for all the cars, and anything that could result from a faulty install they will cover (and you know you'll get it because there a big company). If someone wants to steal your car, they will disable any alarm and there is nothing you can do about it, but i do think an alarm will help you from having people mess with it because it will draw attention. Viper makes a couple of two-way alarm systems that have LCD displays on the actual key chain remote. They will notify you of any bump or zone violation your car receives and will even let you know if the remote is out of range from the car. I think alarms are good ideas IMHO.There is a company that makes an alarm add on that will actually spray pepper gas throughout the whole car once the alarm is triggered...its pretty cool...it waits like a minute if the door locks are triggered and then sprays the pepper gas in the car ( i believe it even locks the doors and rolls the windows up, not positive on that though) thus disabling the criminal ( and hopefully leaving him vulnerable to a good ass beating and a date with a pair of cement boots). FYI
My 328 came with a Viper alarm that seemed rather erratic. Eventually I found out that the alarm, even when disabled, still tended to cut out the ignition if the engine was hot! So I had the alarm removed entirely. Now all I have is the window stickers and the dash LED (which goes on when the ignition is shut off), so I still have a bit of a deterrent. My main protection is a Hill Engineering shiftgate lock, along with LoJack.
1995 F355 did not have factory security systems like the newer ones.I have installed a Viper system in my F355 Spider. All connections can be found in the center console except the starter disable, which is under the dash near the ignition switch.I elected not to hook up the ignition disable because I fwelt it wasn't necessary.Lock triggers and door triggers can be found in the center console.there is room to mount the alarm module also.Took about 2 hrs.led can be mounted in the center air condition vent like the factory system.
John You might want to consider a shifter lock from Hill Engineering (sponsor) for about $70 - very clean billet lock that fits into your gate shifter and locks the car into reverse. Although my car has a "passive" alarm I never bother to lock it - good luck trying to find the door handle
