My car (95 gts) has developed a bad noise at 3000 rpm. It sounds like a something is loose around the engine when you are running at 3000 rpm. You can be accelerating or slowing down but as you pass through 3000 you get this noise. If you stay at constant 3000 then the noise is there. Sounds like a loud vibration. Car is pulling great and shows no lights ets. It it Tubi and de-cat.

    Any ideas appreciated

Check to make sure that the diffuser panels under the car are still tight. These thing can rattle up a storm if they lose a bolt espeacialy the ones just under the lip of the bumper. Also in behined the bumber is a heat sheild. This heat sheild has lower attaching points on the lower lip of the bumper. Check to be sure that the heat shield has not broken away from it's mounts (common) and rattleing around against the muffler.

James - I concur with Tom. The harmonic vibration sounds are from loose heat shields or panels. They only create that vibrating/rattling sound at certain rpms. You just need to spend the time to check all the panels to tighten things.

Tom/others - could it be the exhaust bypass valve - don't they start to rattle at lower RPM when it starts to go? Which would sound like it is coming just under the heat shield area....

    Just another thought...

Check the charcoal cannister in the left rear fender, Mine was loose, it was addressed here before. Its an easy fix, just a little pading under the straps.
