Am looking into 355's. I'd like a GTS and it seems they are a fairly rare breed.

Lots of Spiders and GTB's for sale. Was the production of the GTS low???

I'd definitely like a 6 speed - were there more F1 tranny's than sticks sold with the 355? I'm pretty sure the majority of 360s are F1.

There were 2048 GTS's with the 6-speed 'box, not sure how many with F1.

    Many thanks!

So only 23.27% of the 355's have what I want. I wonder how many were yellow?!

    likeminded.

    i just got a red blk 96 355 6 spd 15k.

be aware that the chassis is not as stiff as the spider or gtb. test drive top off before you decide.

    good luck.

Total 355 production numbers from Standard Catalog of Ferrari, includes both 6 -speed and F1:

    4915 Berlinettas
    2577 GTS
    3714 Spiders

Assume about 25% of these make it to the USA in any given year.

    1995-1997 were all 6 speeds.
For model years 98-99, assume about 90% were F1 trannies.

Have you had it long enough to know if the roof leaks?

Does the top store behind the seats as well as a 328? Do you loose legroom when the top is off??

I'd love any other driving impressions or shopping tips you may have...

BTW - I grew up in New Canaan...

    crawford.

hey i don't intend driving this car if i know i will encounter inclement weather. as such i can't vouch for it's water resistance. if it leaks i would give a hoot as i will probably get caught in rain once or twice in coming years.......suggest a search of forum for a more data this regard.

i'm 5'10" and like to drive "italian style" so this car is perfect for me. arms out, seat back reclined a bit. the top doesnt pose a problem when stored behind seat.

oh yes lovely CT. i sure where u are now u don't have to pay property tax on cars.

man, that's more of a cumulative hit than the engine out service every 5 yrs.

good luck, get a ppi on your car that's prob the best advice i can give.

No property tax on cars, thank god.

No state income tax either! Sales tax of 9.25% is pretty brutal, though.

Yeah - when you narrow it down, there's not too many cars out there. I want a 6 speed, which may be even harder to find...

I have a '98 GTS 6 speed that I am not afraid to get caught in the rain with. The top does not leak a single drop, though I am careful about keeping the rubber seals lubed and protected from drying out.

The top does store behind the seats and you do give up some seat travel when it is there. I can't say if you give up too much as I am only 5'9" so its not an issue for me.

I'm 6', but the seat in my 328 is nowhere close to being all the way back so I don't think that will be a problem.

There is a 95 GTB in the area that I sat in yesterday. Very nice side bolsters.

Does the seat bottom in 355's adjust? I didn't check when I was sitting in the car, but would like to have the bottom tilt up a bit...

In my BMW, I've got the front of the seat bottom as high as it goes and it's comfortable on my back.

I too am curious about the production numbers. I bought a 1998 355 GTS F1 5 months ago. Oh, it is yellow as well. I had an NSXT previously and the targa made sense to me. I will confess the chassis is not as stiff as I would like, but it is a simple sacrafice to have the best of the best. In my opinion the GTS keeps the body lines in tact better then the spider, but you can still have an open air car.
