355 OBD II/SD2 fault clearing

On a '97 355 the check engine light came on while at the Rampage. (Great event). I'm looking to verify that if I clear the code with and OBD II scanner it won't reappear again until it's purged by Ferrari's propietary SD2 scanner. i.e., I think the CE light tripped becasue of a loose connection to the fan which I re-seated long before the car got hot. My concern is that if I clear the CE light I won't get an indication if that fault comes up again unless it's cleared by SD2. thanks
