Where should the oil pressure be after a good drive in warm weather? I have seen that it drops down to 10-20 then at speed( above 20 mph) goes up to 70 psi? Is this normal? Any thoughts? Thanks

Mine does that too...when starting up the car it is actually very low for about 2-3 seconds, then it goes to about 1/4 to 1/3 full scale. At speed it's in the middle, but it drops again quite a bit every time I come to a stop/idle.

I believe the owner's manual specifies 70PSI at 6,000 RPM warm. Mine hits 70PSI well before that but I'm running slightly higher weight oil (because of the temperatures in Texas) and my engine only has about 5,000 miles on it, so it's still pretty tight.

You need 10 PSI per 1000 RPMs.

A new tight Ferrari engine will startup from cold and run 80-90 PSI, when warm will idle at 40-50 PSI. These new tight engines should hit the oil pressure relief valve before 3000 RPMs and top out near 85-95 PSI. If you see more than 95 PSI on the oil guage, have the oil guage checked and if the oil guage is correct, you are running too thick an oil.

When My car had 60K miles and 5K track miles on it; it would start and idle at 70 PSI, when warm would idle at 30 PSI, and when stinking hot after a track session would drop to 20 PIS idle with the oil temps in the 250-dF range. This car would hit 70 PSI at 3000 RPMs, and 85 PSI at 5000 RPMs.

Mine to, and I just had the oil changed. Scares the hell out of me. Could the oils sending unit be going bad?

    My book says:
    Oil psi: 72-87 (4.5 idle/hot)

Actually the manual say 72-85 @ 6000 rpm with oil temp = 212*F, ...below 4.5bar is normal when warm and idling. My car generally runs higher than that but the oil temp is usually well below 212. I have to be on the car for a while to get the oil temp to 212. But when it is at 212 or there about, oil pressure is around 85psi. Idles hot around 45-50. Using Shell Rotella T6.
