Still having a problem I think with oil temp at speed. i replaced the water thermo and oil thermo and at speed on a cold day , 45-55 degrees, the oil temp will drop from 190 to 130 at speed on a highway. Is this normal? The water temp will be 180 at speed.

I think that is to cold. Should be at least the same as water temp when warmed up this takes a while though, the oil does not reach operating temp as fast as water temp does. The 355 road cars have a thermostsat that controls oil flow thru its cooler. The thermostat is probably stuck open allowing the oil to flow thru the cooler at all times. Regards, Vern

I already changed the oil thermostat. Oil and water temp have no problem warming up in traffic. It is on highway speeds on cool days that the oil temp drops. I can't think two oil thermostats are bad.

Never say never, LOL. If you think about your problem and how a cooling system works at speed vs and low speed or at idle, I'm at a loss at what else it could be. That thermo is the only mechcanical device between the cooler and the return oil pump. It works as a bypass valve opening only when it reaches a certain temp. Not trying to argue just thinking out loud trying to figure out what else it could be. I have a 355C that has 2 huge oil coolers on it and no thermostat so the oil is always going thru the coolers. I have to block one side off when its 50 degrees or lower because the oil temp sits at 150 degrees or less depending on ambient temp. Regards, Vern

I agree, I will check the thermostat again. Thanks.

Quick question for you did you change it yourself or did someone else do it or said they did it? Do you have the first one?

I had the shop I always use do it. I can trust them. They are a shop that only deals in Ferrari, Viper etc. and have delt with them for 25 years. I think I have the old part in my trunk but I know what you are getting at. I will check for the old part and its condition. Thanks.

Yea, I was just wondering if it was someone you could trust sounds like it is . Maybe they could test it off of the car by putting it in hot water and see if it opens or not or in your case sounds like it is sticking open. It seems that I have heard that those are somewhat of a problem, anyway good luck on gettin' 'er fixed. Regards, Vern

I went thru 4 on my (ahem) Ford water thermostat in one weekend, but I was having the opposite problem - none of them opened. for the 4th one, I went to a different parts place and got a different brand - same thing. 5th one was from the dealer, it was fine. Wasted weekend.

As was said - never say never.
