OK, 3 quick questions... 1) How much oil does everyones 355 use? 2) Whats the difference between min/max on the dipstick in terms on litres/quarts etc. 3) Why does the oil level vary so much ? Check it 3 times and you'll get 4 different results..! Thanks folks
1) After 3 months of weekend only driving, mine was only about 1/2 quart low. Owners manual states "0.26 to 0.52 U.S. gallon per 600 miles according to driving and other conditions". 2) Owners manual also states that the volume of oil between "Min" and "Max" marks is 0.52 U.S. gallon or 2 litres. 3) Always check the oil immediately after the engine is fully warmed up to normal operating temperatures. The correct procedure is to pop rear bonnet lid, shut down engine, and (using a shop rag) immediately unscrew dipstick cap, wipe clean, reinsert cap (no need to screw back down), pull back out and check level on dipstick. Hope this helps...perhaps other owners here can chime in with their experiences as well...
Damn, that oil cap gets hot. Never had a problem with the oil on the 355, get it changed every 3000mls and add a quart in between if it needs it. If it needs oil, it needs oil. Cheap insurance I say.
My 328 and the 355 seem to be one quart between the marks, contrary to the owner's manual. BTW, is that in the manual, the part about not having to screw the cap down? (sorry, my car is at the shop, getting a curbed wheel repaired, so I can't check).
Not sure if it is mentioned in the manual or not (probably not) To be "technical", you should probably screw it down for an accurate reading, but the difference would be equal to approx. 1 cup of oil -- here's a link to a thread where this is discussed somewhat: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11795&highlight=355+oil+dipstick
I've owned my 355B since Feb '04, had 2 oilchanges (every 3000 miles) never had to add oil. use 10-40 Castrol Syntech..
