So, what is the best and latest oil being used in 355's? During my last service at a F Dealership, they used synthetic MOBIL 1 5/40. Now it's hard to locate and the dealership is using another weight by Quaker Sate.

Saw this commercial a few times on television, sounds too weird but may be true.. need validation..
but Quaker State is advertisong that their "Q" is Ferraris "offical" oil. The commercial has a 430 in a barn reving it's engine and then a bunch of golden oil computer generated horses break ot of the barn.

    Q ????????? Quaker Sate ????????????????

no f"""ing way in my car!!!!

my oil of choice is Royal Purple.

I just saw a print ad with the Quaker State 430...what's up with that? What happened to the Shell partnership?? Or is that just for fuel and the other oils??

Mobil 1 0w-40 is easier to find, and actually meets all of the european car specs. It is one of the more popular substitutes for the factory Shell ultra helix 5w-40.

the local ferrari mechanics (competizione) here that used to work at FoW were telling me that Mobil 1 was not something they thought was good for Ferrari's and they recommended Motul

The major was done last October and I haven't changed the oil since that time. Lake Forest Sports Cars did the major and used Shell oil, not sure what weight--It wasn't written on the major receipt..

I have used Castrol Syntec 20w50 and Mobil 1 20w50 with no issues.
However the last 3 changes I have switched to Mobil 1 0W40 and plan to continue with this (after reading articles from this site).
The 20w50 is overkill for the street and I will only use it if /when I track the car again.

Just had Competizione do an oil change a couple weeks ago and they used Shell Helix 5W 40.

I use Brad Penn 1 (now Penn Grade 1) with high levels of Zinc and phosphorus required for my 70 350 Chevy with flat tappits. Any comments on the Penn Grade?

I doubt it really matters. My 355, prior to my ownership, always had factory Shell. I bought with 27k miles. While I had it, I mostly used Mobil 1, Euro 0w-40. Twice while getting major services at the dealer, it got Shell. I sold it with around 63k miles on it, and it was running great. Never had issues with valve guides.

I don't think I would use Mobil 1 0w-40 today as it has since lost some of its approvals, like BMW LL-01. The favorite in that weight on Bobisthoilguy.com is Castrol Edge 0w-40, which is a very robust oil with great used oil analysis numbers, and decent HTHS numbers, better than Mobil 1. Go to bobistheoilguy.com if you want to learn everything there is to know about oil, from serious oil nerds.

I just use the factory Shell/Pennzoil 5w-40 in my 430 Scuderia.

My records show Shell 5W40 for dealer work and Redline 5W40 from the independent with Swepco 502 additive.

I buy a 2.5 gallon jug of Amsoil premium protection synthetic 10w40. Has elevated ZDDP, more than the factory spec Shell, which like all oils does not have the same additives as it did in the 1990's.

Red Line 5w 40. Slightly better specs than Pennzoil Euro Platinum.
