Intersted in hearing people thoughts on which you would buy now if you could buy either.

I have owned a 355 berlinetta and a 360 modena, both red, both manual, loved both cars for slightly different reasons.

Have a 996 GT3 RS and a 964 C2 at moment and potentially have £40k to spend on another toy.

Options are a F355 spyder in yellow with black interior or a red with black interior 360 spyder. both manual, not a lot of money difference betweent them and simliar mileage,

Car will be used for occasional weekend runs, probably spend most of its life in the garage.

I dont want anything that will depreciate and not bothered about the engine out cambelt.

What you buy and why !

    cheers
    scott.

But you drive a Ferrari. It should be an equalizer!

Why did you get rid of the 355 and the 360 you had?

If anyone knows which one is better, wouldn't it be you since you've owned both.

sold 355 as had a tax bill to pay, sold the 360 as wanted a gt3RS, a friend bought the 355 and has it still, i am still in touch with the new owner of the 360, he has had it 3 years,

both still worth pretty much what I sold them for and the RS is worth about 5k more,

dont like toys depreciating really, have enough depreciation on the bmw 335 and the other halfs cayenne,

355 always felt more special, like it was hand built, fragile almost, beautiful to look at, pain to service, pain to get in and out of and the crema interior was difficult to keep clean, the 355 had much less torque than the 360 so had to be revved more to make it go quick, handling similar but slightly less stable i would say on fast corners,

360 had been DMS chipped, and was a bit quicker, but felt much more quicker as it had more torque, better put together, like a BMW really, much easier to live with, much more modern, less special? dont know, just that once you have had them a few years they become the norm, had both cars 3 years, (ended up putting full stradale kit - bumper, seats, wheels, skirts on the 360 - looked fab)

have never owned a spyder, the 355 is a very beautiful car, prettier than the 360, but going to be more expensive to look after, the 360 is a fab car, but not as pretty as the 355, and fancy one in yellow , dont like the 360 in yellow particaularly though,

i spent about 10k in service on the 355 in 3 years, about half that on the 360, both had circa 22k miles when i sold them, only did about 4k miles in the 355 but did about 10 in the 360,

i just wondered what others think of them now as havent owned a ferrari for 3 years, some people still dont like the 360 and some people think the 355 is just dated,

as for the poster who says dont buy a car regarding depreciation, if you buy the right car, you dont lost money on them, buy a 100k 430 and you will lose money, i bought my 355 for £42k almost 9 years ago, and its worth the same today, so ownership cost is only the service and maintenance which is fine,

    cheers
    scott

Well, being that this is the 348/355 forum you'll get a lot of biased answers. I could have bought either but prefer the 355 for multiple reasons. That said, I would buy a 360 spider over a 355 spider as I think they lose a lot of their good looks without the top. I would buy a 355 GTS over either of them if I were convertible guy.

Two things really have surprised me about the 355. The first is the trunk space, I never would have thought I could put as much in there as I can. The other is the long drive comfort. I've taken the car on a few long trips and it is suprisingly comfortable.

Two things I dislike are the steering wheel position (too far away) and scraping the nose.

no one loves the 355 more than me. that being said the 360 is the "better" car. 360s are hard to argue with in the 70 and 80ks....i have a 95 355 i will never sell. it was my first ferrari.. i have a CS i also will never sell. I sold my 360 spider last year. To me the 355 is the nicest ferrari since 1995....if the 355 gives you more butterflies than thr 360 then go for the 355...if it doesnt go for the 360...in both i wld buy 6 speeds...i wldnt by an f1 unless it was a CS or 430....

I LOVE my 360 6 speed stick. I'd like a 355 to complement my car in the garage... but the cost of maintaining it... that I'm not so sure about. Looks are also IMHO dated compared to the modern models.

Agree with ttforcefed.. get what gives you butterflies.

If you dont like toys depreciating then you are buying a Ferrari for the wrong reason. Forget it and stick to the porches.

Ive been looking (previous 355 owner) at 360s and I finally realized that while I wanted to like them...I really dont. I find the 360 uncomfortable and too large.

Im going back to a 355...

Ferrari made a big deviation from the 355 to the 360/430. The later are too large and not a ground hugging looking car like all the previous Ferrari. They are more boat like for lack of a better word and they are loosing favourability as each year passes. The 458 broke away from that look and has gone back to that lower to the ground sort of wedge look again....I like it.

what a stupid statement and it adds nothing to the debate on this thread

Forget it and stick to porsches ? no ! i want another ferrari Im simply considering depreciation as part of my own financial management,

i have a collection of motorbikes as well, all are zero depreciation with the exception of the new daily bike,

its much more fun having a bunch of toys that simply arent losing lots of money, im quite sure a lot of people buy 355's as an alternative to 360's due to their fairly robust values,

i dont expect guarantees, just interested in peoples view's hence the post on the forum,

    regards
    scott.

agree with that although i test drove a GTS F1 a week or so ago and the top rattled a bit, suppose they all do, i took my 355 to germany from scotland and it was comfortable and luggage wasnt an issue,

Tough arguement, Do you want Traditional Ferrari-Blow your socks off looks, Wow factor at the coffee joint, and a love it or leave it maintenance schedule that only other owners can understand, or do you want a more modern comfort, still fast but i'm my opinion is a first in a series of divergences from the old school?

If you want a no emotions though,, a car thats 15 years old (my 1997 F355 GTS) is worth the same as a model 7+years later.. and probably will always.

If money were less of an object if not a 355, i'm getting a 430 spyder 6 speed since it was the last of the 3 pedal cars, or a 458 spyder (dreaming at this point)

Either way its better than a Toyota! :)

Yesterday, for my 50th bday, I traded my wonderful manual 355 Spider for a 430 F1 Spider. Both are rosso corsa/tan. While I loved the 355, the ownership experience was a little expensive and scary at times due to same, and yes I took a hit. I think I got a good buy though on the 430.

What finally convinced me to step up and take the not insignificant, retirement-delaying financial step involved? Several factors. 1: as great looking as the 355 is, I think Ferrari nailed the 430. Not the 360 and not the 458. But there is so much to love about the 430's looks, ditto 355, that I don't see on the 360, which is why I never looked at these.

2: see above on ownership experience.

3: I drove the 430. What a beast! i am sure the 458 is better, but it is beyond my financial capabilities and it does not talk to me the way the 355 and 430 do. I expect more of the same from the eventual 468, whatever. But this car is incredible.

And yes I wish i could have both, as the 355 is the last of the old style F cars. I will miss it, but I feel extrmemly fortunate with the new one.
