What does your 355 suspension/ride light on mean?

  1. when light is ON, does this=SOFT

  2. when light is OF does this= HARD

The old question of the suspension light switch has come round again on the UK thread. although i was told by some ferrari specialists that the 94-97 cars were. when the lights ON this is the soft setting, and when the light is OF this is the hard/sport setting. And on the 97-99 models the complete oposite. This throry is blown out of the warter becourse there are some different year cars with the same suspension switch/light combos.
Personaly that the switches were just wired anyway at the factory and it was by chance as to which ever one you ended up with:(
It would be good to do a poll to see what the majority of the 355 owners have on there cars. Also maybe you could also add to this thread by giving the year and type of 355 model you may have, and which switch combo you have.
My own is a 95 spider and when lights ONthis= soft, and when lights OF this=hard.
My mates is a 97 spider and is the oposite.

Can't vote in poll, as mentioned by Seb, but FWIW when the light is ON the suspension is SOFT (95 model)

My car is a May 99 Spider manual, RHD, UK supplied.
When the light is on, the suspension is in comfort (soft) mode.
When the light is off, the suspension is in sport (hard) mode and is a nightmare to drive at high speed on the uneven, poor road surface of the British motorway! I drive the car with the light on ALL the time! I've read what others have said re default to sport at higher speeds, but it doesn't seem to happen to my car!

    Chaa,

I'm not sure I understand your question, but maybe this will help.

    I have a 99 F1 Spider.

When the switch is pressed it switches between "Sport" and "Comfort". If the "Sport" light on the dash is on, it is in "Sport" mode.

From the manual: " This indicator is located on the instrument panel and lights when the "Sport" setting is selected."

Actually, I believe that the difference is between manual and F1. When the manual car has the light on, it's soft and when the F1 has the light on, it's hard. At least that's how it was in my 1997 manual 355 berlinetta.

Sherpa23's explanation is correct for 1998 and 1999, the two years that the F1 tranny was employed. I have a '98 manual and the light on is soft. Its the opposite for the F1 tranny, I verified this in the factory manuals. The factory manual for the '98 F1 tranny is downloadable from the Ferrari Owner's Site (or at least it was). I cross referenced this with the owner's manual included with my car.

How is the '95 different from the '97? I also noticed your picture was taken in Europe. Is there a difference between US and European models? What I stated is true for US models.

Yes maybe sherpa is right about one year only 98-99 maybe, but its not correct across the board regarding 355s is it? He has based his findings on his own car.
As i have already said my 1995 355 manual spiders suspension is hard when the light is ON. And my mates 1997 355 manual spider is soft when his light is ON.

    Chaa,

What does his and you light say? Do they both say "Sport", like mine? I would think if it says "Sport" then it would be lit when in "Sport" mode.

Thats a good point dude. I have just rang him and asked him to look at his car. Neither of our lights say anything, instead there is a little picture of a shocker.
So do some say the word sport then?

You guys should post pictures of what you are talking about.

Is this the light some of you guys are talking about?

I'm not sure what year this one is, but it's a manual.

    Yes Chaa,

My car says "Sport" (see below)

On the right side of the cluster there is a light with the picture of a car. If it is lit then it indicates a failure.

How did you determine this to be true? I only checked '98 and '99 US cars and was able to verify in the factory manuals. I had assumed it was true across all other years as well. Also note that this is consistent with Sherpa23's answer and he has a '97 - introduced before the F1 tranny.

How did you dermine the function on the '95 and '97 Euro models? If they are different, which year does what?

F1 cars say 'Sport' in the lit area. Manual shift cars DO NOT, it only has the shock absorber picture. This is another way to verify that the function is different in F1 cars versus manual shift cars for model years 1998-1999.
