I have a person that wants to change his 348 TB for one of my cars. This 348 have not been used much the 3 last years so i suppose it needs new timing belts/all fluids service. What other things should i look out for on a 348? The car have a milage of 50 000 km/h so that is not much I have read that the 348 V8 engine is a pretty solid engine. Is this a fact? I wonder if a 355 challenge tail light panel fit a 348? Thinking of not cutting anything Just bolt on and change back from 355 tail light panel to the original 348 tail light panel when i want to Also do the air intake on the doors from a 355 fit a 348?(thinking of bolt on and no cutting) The same goes for the front bumper if a 355 bumper fits bolt on on a 348? I have not made up my mind if i want to swap cars. The first time he asked me about this was several years ago
I don't know about the tail ligh panel, I have seen it done on a 348 but don't know if all the mounting bolts fit. But the door panels, well the mounting points are not the same so you will have to fashion some kind of clips for the 348 in order to fit the 355 panel.
There are just enough slight differences between 348 and 355 that the tail panels aren't a quick swap.
So i suppose that involves cutting to the car to fit those panels? if i decide too swap i really do not feel for doing any cutting in the car When it is time to change the timing belts do you also rebuild the water pump(i have seen a picture of the original bearing for the water pump and that looks really bad compared to the nos bearing) Also change the seals on the cams? Do you put some extra spot welds/braced on the 3 camshaft drive wheels so they do not separate? Also do you weld/brace the crank wheel? Anything i have left out when it comes to a engine out service? I guess my favorite Ferrari is the old 512 BB
Yes to the waterpump it it has not been done in the last 10 years. Yes to the cam seals. Yes to the pulley welds. Also change timing belts and tensioner bearings. Some of us also inspect the oil pump chain tensioner / ramp inside the engine.
Spam alert! I sold my 348 about a year ago, but still have a pair of 355 style door scoops that I decided not to install. They are made to install on the 348. $750 + shipping. PM me if you want 'em!
I have been searching the net for how to change timing belts and noted is there not any gasket between the engine bottom/oil pan and engine? Do you change to new tensioner wheels for the timing belt when doing this job? Does Hill Engineering have good quality parts? What is the difference between the 348 TB/Ts and the later GTB/GTS?
This was an attempt to answer your question http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=341667&highlight=differences
355 Taillightassembly : You need to cut the 355 plate in hight and width shrink it down and manufactur side plates for it to cover the gap between the plate and the chassis of the 348. Then you need to cut the 348 chassis where the taillights will be mounted, otherwise you will not get the 355 taillights deep enough into the chassis and they would stick out far too much. Then you need to screw or weld brackets for the taillights to the 348 chassis. It could be reversed to the original 348 taillight assembly you need to reweld new mounting points for the 348 taillights. I think the holes you have to cut for the 355 taillights will be covered from the 348 taillights so they are no problem. http://www7.pic-upload.de/09.12.12/dtjqj1u8ux3p.jpg http://www7.pic-upload.de/09.12.12/v3pedjsnvl95.jpg http://www7.pic-upload.de/09.12.12/1ntm6szo9w65.jpg 355 Doors : Here you have to manufacture a cover for the door handle holes on the 355 doorcovers otherwise it would leak water in. Then you need to build two brackets to mount the doorcovers because the 355 covers have two studs on the bottom. And i have glued the 355 covers on the back to the door that it is sealed and more stable because it is missing the two screw points in the back. You could reverse it back to 348 without a problem. http://www7.pic-upload.de/09.12.12/3snzhhdcbcl.jpg 355 Frontbumper : Fits as it is i had no problem with it http://www7.pic-upload.de/09.12.12/dks9gr7q6yi1.jpg 355 Rearbumper : I had to rebuild the two middle brackets as with the original brackets the bumper stick out too much. I build two flat ones. Then it fits quite nice. 355 Fronthood scoop : Fits as it is had no problem with it. 355 Side Mirrors : Fit but decided to not use them i think the 348 mirrors look better and smaller. 355 Side skirts : I never get a set of those so i dont know.
Ok today i found out that the 355 side skirts do not fit on the 348 they are arround 1 inch / 2-3cm too short.
Hi Tom...I know this was a while back but do you still have the 355 door scoops that fit a 348, if not, do you know where I could find them? Thanks!
