Hi, I'm in the market for a 355 and have been collating various bits of info. I noticed in the 355vsEspirit thread that when tested the 355's performance figures were well down from what it would/should have been when new.

    They quoted...

0-60 - in 5.5 secs and a top speed of 153mph. The figures when new were 0-60 in 4.6 secs and a top speed of 183 mph. So whats happening, is the car as tested poorly maintained or has it developed some other fault? I wouldn't want to buy a 355 and get burnt by a Focus RS for instance!

    thanks

    Simon

I can pretty much guarantee top speed in a 355 is north of 153mph and 0 to 60 south of 5sec. easy. Focus is a nice car, but you shouldn't have too many problems. Maybe driver error? Or someone who couldn't read the speedo?

Lets just say that I go to another state to get coffee 65 miles away in my 355 and my best time is 32 minutes.. The car definately does 180+. and handles like a dream!

My 355 rapes 160 very quickly. It's quicker than my 03 M3 to 60. I've raced it before. And that is a sub 5 sec car. Something was definately wrong with that 355 they tested.

I agree; those figures are very suspect.

My 355 can mix it with many of the local superbikes without getting totally embarrassed... I don't think a Focus RS would cause any real concern in an out and out drag race!

My Car magazine test of the 355 vs V8 Esprit quoted figures of:
    (355, Esprit)
    0-60 4.8,4.8
    Vmax 183, 175

Which concur with many other contemporary tests, so I'd say the 5.5 to 60 is a poorly 355 or some other anomaly.

As an aside, I would say that I've noticed that the difference between a fast car like a Focus RS and a really fast car like a 355 is not that great in the real world, driven fast but safely within the confines of blind corners, traffic, junctions etc. It's only when you can really extend a really fast car on a long, clear straight that the difference becomes apparent.
