355 Prices in 10 years

i was wondering where you guys see 355 prices going to 10 to 15 years, in those years its my goal to buy a 355 gts and was just wondering where they might be

 

My prediction (BEST GUESS!) based on history of "volume" production ferrari's (308 and on) is that 355 prices will be similar to todays prices in 10 years.

 

I'd bet on big inflation and a bigger run on Ferraris, driving up prices. The F355, despite its faults, was a favorite of Ferrari-lovers and the general public. It will season well over the years.

Look at 348 prices - they've come up recently and not an insignificant amount. 456 prices should rise as well. As for the 612, well, I wouldn't buy one new.

 

I would bet 5 years from now the 360 and 355 prices will be very comparable..The 355 may drop a little more, but with all the 360's out there--They will take a major hit real soon...

 

I have been watching prices and I believe the 355 has bottomed out and has gone up slightly. Remember that they only made 8,200 of them and twice as many 360. The 430 will eclipse 20,000. There is an absence of the 355 at many shows I have gone to and yet people there ask me where they can find a good one. On average it will take you 2 years to find a decent 355. The Berlinetta seems to be even more rare. Many are and have described the 355 as the ultimate Ferrari....This meaning the looks, driving feel, power, and price. With markets opening up in Russian and Asia you will see the world swallow up 30,000 430s if they make them. This will drive many to look for older models and when it comes to older models the 355 is being sought out more and more. I would say that in 10 years the 355 will appreciate at least 25% and maybe as much 60%. But thats just my thinking.

 

They made 11,373 355's during the production run total. Appreciate 60%--I sure hope so--WOO-HOO!!!!

 

Here's how to help them appreciate - let's all add 20% to our respective purchase prices and don't sell under that price! Yeah for Fchat collusion!

The big factor the 355 will fight is the fearsome maintenance costs compared to the 360. The more we can all help reduce maintenance costs by posting tips in here, the more we'll help the resale value of 355's.

 

Don't believe the hype...they are just used cars. You have any good stock picks too?

Only around 200 Red / Black 355F1 Spiders were produced according to Ferrari. Remove the wrecks and you have even less remaining....

 

No, I don't---No one knows for sure the real breakdown--I don't even think Ferrari knows--Hopefully the registry will answer this question with a factual basis in the coming years..

 

Obviously it's a guess - who knows about inflation.

Assuming zero inflation, I'd say they'll keep dropping to about $50K-$60K in 2007 dollars. With inflation, I agree with the above comments that you'll still probably have an $80K car (again, lots of things affect the value of the dollar...)

The 246 will continue its march toward $200K for nice ones. The surviving 308s and 328s will be collectibles in 10 years. Glass 308s will easily pass 355s.

To answer the OP, I don't think you're missing out of any kind of investment whatsoever by buying a 355 10 years from now instead of today. They will be where 308s are today - the "entry-level" Ferrari, although I think 348s may always be a bit lower than 355s in price.

355s will suffer from publicized price tags on F1 tranny pumps, manifolds, valve guides, failed power tops, etc. You can bet that by 2017 these cars will need a new everything (even if the valve guide issue has long since been put to bed.)

Also, the comment about 360s above was true, IMO. There are already dozens of these for sale for every 355, but for the pure performance junkie newer is always better. So the glut of less-pretty 360s around won't help 355 prices.

 

Here's the real question for us 348 owners: Will we ever see 355 prices lower than 348's? What about special 348 models (Challenge, SS, Comp, etc.)? I'm thinking that we will see 328 prices over 355 before then. Oh, the inhumanity!!! At some point I expect to see pricing parity between the 348's and 355's. Sure u get more car for the money with a 355, but at a higher maintenance cost. I do expect 355's to stay generally higher (big surprise), but don't be shocked to see overlap in the ranges across the models and their subtypes.

 

Does anyone know how many 6-spd MY99 ever produced? It took me awhile to find mine! T.I.A.

 

Low production numbers may mean a certain exclusivity, but does not equal demand...just ask someone trying to sell a 400i or a Mondial 8...

I'm not saying 355's are never going up, but don't get all worked up yet. They are used cars, with known problems (valve guides, exhaust manifolds, F1 pumps) and require expensive "engine out" major services that are not required of the later cars.

I read some of the responses, and I have to say that the question is not really all that clear to answer. ALOT of the variation in pricing may (may???) be based on mileage in another 10 years. Plus all the other variables.... Berlinetta, Spyder, GTS, F1 vs 6 speed.....

FChat in particular "rags on" high mileage cars (see thread about 100K mile 308s in 308 section) and the value of "garage queens" is just absolutely ridiculous (see the 300mile 328 post in the 3x8 section).

I think it was Bullfighter that said they will hit around 50-60 K in 2007 dollars, but if you look around, there are a few "high mileage" 355s going in that range today. Will they depreciate more? I dunno........

Its not an easy answer to come up with. A "less than 500 mile" car may be worth more than a gently used 430, but where's the dropping off point for cars of high or unknown mileage. I dunno.......

Then there's always the arguement of model year changes. Take the 328 last year (ABS, concave? wheels) and alot of people seem to think its worth more, but take the 95 355 with 2.7 motronic and dual MAFs, and many think its worth more (regardless of valveguide/header). Then, take a look at the spyders, I've already noted a few discrepancies about thier cost, is the top really that much of a problem?

My best guess. Prices will be where they are today or slightly higher. By then the base v-8 car will be 350k.

You get more car in a 2003 Porsche 996 than a 1955 Porsche Speedster.

You also get more car in a 360 than a Dino 246, but in a couple of years there won't be any restored 246s down in 360 range.

The new car market values performance. For now, the F430 trumps the 360. 20 years from now, no one will give a cr@p.

The 'classics' market couldn't care less. It's all about marque, rarity, looks and (usually) open-top.

 

THAT... is a good point. Ferrari's onward-and-upward MSRP trend is pure brilliance in terms of keeping its older cars in demand.

i really started to wonder about this after looking through dupont registrys and seeing berlinettas and gts' being almost nonexistent and only seeing spiders and then wondering where they would be when i would hopefully be able to pull the trigger, i was thinking they will be about where 308s are now but i couldn't find any production numbers so i was positive

 

From an investment perspective, the 308 series is in the bargain basement. Give 10 more years and try to find a good example under $80-90K. As they burn up, crash, and are otherwise pimped out, fewer nice examples will be around. The 308 will go the way of the Dino. Similar for the 328, but's not the bargain that the 308 is.

As time marches on, the distinguishment between the 348 and 355 will lessen, although most certainly at least a $5-10K spread will always remain, similar to the 308/328 price differentiation. That means the 355 has much further to fall yet than the 348, which has in recent years completely bottomed.

As for my personal preference, IF all Ferraris were valued the same, I would have a hard time parting with my yellow 348ts for any other model. It's a beauty and is solid as my Lexus.

 

The 355s are starting to go even below 50000 euros (approx.$ 65000), as concessionaries are not taking them back anymore and are full of 360 modenas to rid.

The only 355 still holding close to early 360 modena prices are the F1 355 models.They are going for 70000 euros /approx.$91000)


modenas are to drop even more as they are starting to be heaps lieing around in concessionaries starting at 78000 euros up to 90000 euros.
Some ask more than 120000 euros for a 360 spyder, but for a little extra cash you just buy a F430 close to new.
