Ive been away from the board for a while since selling my 348. I visited the board almost daily and read pretty much every thread. The board is great and extremely informative. Regardless I have my sights on a red/tan 355 Spyder (1995 MY) it has only 17k miles and has good service records.
I assume that w/17k miles the valve guide issue would have already surfaced if it was going to........true or not true.
Please chime in in order to help with my decision.

    Thanks

IMHO, that unless it is print that the valve guide service was complete I would not assume that. Even with that (I am paranoid), I would be leary and have it verified on my next major, or get a better deal on the car that hasn't had a major and get it done on the spot.

Hi m I know tht it hasnt been done...........I was really trying to determine that if the valve guides were going to go bad would they not have done so by now (17k on the clock)
I will certainly have a PPI done, leakdown etc etc............

At this point I would worry more about the headers. Get those factory units off of there as soon as you can. Do not replace them with new factory parts they never fixed the problem, either Tubi or have the originals rebuilt with better quality SS also dump the cats either hyperflows or pipes, regards, Vern

I personally know three 1995 F355s with original valve guides. Here are their mileage: 31K, 60K+, and 23K miles (my own car). There are a lot of confusions about valve guides here on the forum, mostly from non-owners. Read wisely ;)

    Thanks Vern, Dan and F1VTEC

I am having the dealer price me up on adding Tubi Headers and Hyperflows (Ricambi)

Th car is about 1 year away from requiing the 3 year belt service. What would be a fair price for a car making those consideration. I understand that the headers ans Hyperflows are and should be on my dime.

    Thanks for your input.

I am not sure about the pricing, but I think mid 60s would be a fair price for the car.

I think the valve guide issue was made up by NSX owners so they could make up for not being able to afford a real car. Anyone who posts about the issue that doesn't own one should have a big warning over their post.

Ummm, I am an NSX owner, and also an F355 owner....Trust me, I know a few NSX owners that can afford lots of F355s. This post might be made with tongue in cheek, but it is a post like this that steer away true car enthusiasts from the so called "Ferrari owner".

Ah c'mon, it was funny! If that post steers someone away from owning a Ferrari, then they aren't true Tifosi anyway.

Excellent move! You won't regret it. Mine is a '98 and it had to have fresh guides installed at 14Kmi. I did not regret owning a F355 even after signing that big check. It's still an event whenever I turn the key :) (and I drive it almost every day!)

writing the check is the part my wife is having a hard time about, I keep telling her how much fun it will be and she won't even miss that amount but she hates to part with it, maybe she's planning a big party, hope I'm invited!

I understand Brian..............I've had 3 F-cars and my wife hasnt even sat in one of them. She says they are to flashy and draw to much attention................I guess she has a point.................what I dont understand is that shes 1/2 Italian..........you'd think she'd want to support the homeland.
