Colleagues, curious if anyone has encountered a similar problem, . . . the rear compartment/glove box lock on my 355 seems to be sticking. In particular, the push button gets stuck in the depressed, 'open' position such that the lid won't remain closed. Gentle manipulation of the latch allows the button to return to the resting 'closed' position. I removed the lock from the compartment for inspection and did not find anything amiss externally. The lock is primary made of plastic and I don't see a way of opening it up without compromising the outer case. Lub⁶ricating the button and latch mechanism didn't seem to make a difference. The usual supplier's parts diagrams show the lock as no longer available. Any ideas other than finding a replacement from a parts car? The lock has 'S.A.F.E. 509-12' stamped on it. Any idea if this type of compartment lock was used in any other application?

Haven't had any problem with a jamming button, but it is really difficult to get it to stay closed. Once I managed to get it closed, I stopped using it.

There are second hand storage compartments available with locks, but crazy expensive.. and probably have the same issues.

Mine did it in one of my cars. I found pushing down before actuating helped.
