355 RH mirror loose/rattle

My passenger door mirror is ever so slightly loose and at times, presents a slight rattle. I removed the access cover for the attachment nut and it seems to be tight. Next, I fully removed the nut and spring and did not notice any thing wrong. Retightened the nut, but it is still loose.

The parts manual lists a mirror gasket 64298600 @$98.00, and a mirror plate gasket 64332600 @$6.00 and wonder if one or both of those parts are my issue?

I have not tried to tighten that spring and nut any more, but maybe that's all I need to do?

 

OK.....took apart the LH mirror and there is a screw holding the mounting stud that is not present in the right side. A new sheet metal screw and all good. Best guess is that the RH mirror was removed to repair some chips and someone forgot to replace the screw. I found a thread where the housing for the screw was broken and it require more surgery. Here is a pic from that thread:

Fortunate that all I needed was to install a new screw...no more rattle.
