    Hello my 355 friends,

my right front shock absorber seems to leak a little from the top.
It's not 100 dry around the shock but no reason to panic for me at the moment. (see the picture from battery replacement job)
While driving, no problem or noise ("clonck") appears.
    Any diagnostics, suggestions or consolation?

    Thanks

Yes you do seem to have a leak from the shock area, leaky shocks is not a good thing even though it may drive not to bad on the road,if and when you decide to change them do the pair,
also cut the cable tie off the brake line holding the ABS/PAD sensor wiring to it and put a proper double C clip on,never pull tie to brake lines, rubber or braided or steel pipes,

    cheers
    Dale.

    cinquevalvole,

Smells like a 95 or 96 355 (just curious and a guess)... I just had 2 of my 355 spider shocks replaced (back) and 2 rebuilt... These don't look horrible (from the leakage amount) - so you can have them rebuilt for a few hundred (as opposed to the 600 - 900 for replacements).

Do a quick search in the history on 355 rebuilt shocks - they listed a several places to get them rebuilt in the US and UK...

In my opinion (others will disagree) - if it doesn't seem like the leak is getting worse - and you have a service coming up or at the end of the year or are going to have some maintenance done - I think you can hold off until then.. - but keep a close eye on it - and if you get a suspension warning, noise or other - you should take it in... Plan on about 2 weeks or so for the rebuild shocks..

Mine ran about a year after I noticed a leak at the top of one rear shock... I was just about due for the full 30K - so I waited - without any issues...

    Hope that helps,
    Rich

Just had a rear leaky shock rebuilt on my '95 355, ran about $200 and Rob at Delta Vee turned it around in a day. How's that for service? He also has some in stock if you need to get one right away.

    mille grazie Rich !

exactly my opinion. BTW, it's a 1995 GTS with 34.000 km on the clock.
Maybe the later 355 have better shocks ?
I will get a rebuildt job somewhere (2 x front) and check the rear ones.
So, Rob is a little far over-the-atlantic-shipping for me :-(
Guess I have to check out a bilstein service in germany at the end of the year .
Q: How much time is needed to get a front shock out of the car?

Thank for all replies! Fchat is really fast :)
