Last week in the middle of the day when I went out to lunch the Slow Down Light started to blink on after pushing the car a little hard in traffic. By the time I got to the 8th floor of the parkihg structure, it returned to normal.

This AM after stopping for gas and driving a block or so the flashing light came back on and stayed on till I turned the car off at the office (about six blocks away)
At 5:00 PM when I got back in the car and started the eng. the light started flashing and sTayed flashing for about 10 min and went out.

Both times I cheched the water and oil temp, all normal.

What gives? Why did it come on, on a cold eng? Does the software have a time out funtion before the light goes out? Why did it come on in the first place?

Either the cat or the thermocouple or the Exhaust ECU (or real oxygen sensor) is going out.

"Both times I cheched the water and oil temp, all normal."

When the warning light comes on immediately after a cold-restart it's surely an electrical gremlin/fault, but if after some driving the warning light comes on you should stop and visually inspect the exhaust system near where the thermocouple is located -- if it's a real over-temp fault, the exhaust flanges/tubes will be glowing red-hot (and nearby components might be smoking/burning a little). Water and oil temps will remain normal when the coachwork is on fire ;)
