how accurate is the speedometer in the 355? I read an English reprort that reviewed the car when new and they had the acctual speed and the speedo reading and they were about 10mph difference. In 6th gear I think it is 21mph per 1000 rpm. I looked at my car at 3000rpm in 6th and the speedo read just over 70mph but in theory it should be 63mph. Is this true for only early cars.

Mine is 9% off. So when it reads 100, I'm really going 91.

Best thing to do is have a portable GPS unit in the car for a true readout.

mine is out by 3% with standard sized tyres. i doubt you'll find much better than that in any car.

Does this mean that a (for example) 10,000 mile (on the speedo) car has actually done 9%, 900 less miles?

All speedo's read low in the UK, usually about 5-7%. You can tell when driving through Specs camera arrays (average speed check) where everyone is doing a few mph less than the limit and wondering how you are getting away with overtaking them :D.

Interesting point is in my Audi, although the speedometer reads low - the average speed on the info display (once reset) reads bang on (compared with GPS).

Checked my 355 yesterday and its bang on at 50mph (80kph) - which is a first for any car I have owned (standard tyre/wheel size).
