Hi guys, I had an odd situation the other day, I went to raise the roof and as the passenger seat started to move forward, it was like it was only moving on 1 rail. it then caused the seat to twist and jam. I could back the seat off and try again, same thing. If I apply pressure to the non-moving side I could get it to inch forward with a lot of 'back and forth' moving. (and that allowed me to get the roof up). I had the same issue then moving the seat back, requiring a lot of 'backwards and forwards' whilst trying to push the stuck side back. I can't immediately see anything wrong, but is there anything obvious I'm missing before I resort to trying to remove the seat? Many Thanks in advance!
If you look at the seat mechanism there are 3 places where there could be a failure. There is a shaft coming out of each side of the motor (red arrow). The shaft on the side not moving could have sheared or is not driving the gear box. There are gear boxes on each side (black arrows). Again, the one on the side not moving could have failed. Last, there are gear boxes on the rails (blue arrows), one of which could have failed, though those are unlikely. I would suspect one of the black arrow gear boxes or something with the red arrow shafts or their connection to the motor or gear box. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I never came back to update this thread, very poor of me. I got the seat out, no issues, checked the 'blue' gearbox works, both perfect (and solid - can't see those things ever failing!) I swapped the black arrow gearboxes over with the hope of seeing if the issue 'reversed', ironically it seems the gearboxes are side-specific, so the button moved them in the opposite direction. However, what I did notice, is that the seat runners themselves were not level, ie, the left runner was further forward than the right, So I manually wound that up (using grips on the blue arrow shaft mount). When I pieced it all back together again (gearboxes back int eh right place), the seat moved perfectly! - silky smooth! So ironically, nothing had broken (luckily), just the runners were out of alignment. All working now, thanks so much for the pointers
