Hi all - today i fitted a nouvalari and it all seemed to go quite well. When driving today i found that under fairly hard to full acceleration the car splutters badly. I can only really notice this at the higher RPMs, say approximately 4000 and over. I have noticed that there is a very faint blow at the exhaust valve at idle could this affect the running in any way - there is no ecu warning light on the dash. motronic 5.2 1997 year any ideas would be greatly received. Cheers Rossatron

If you had the battery disconnected at all while you were putting in the new exhaust I would start with, disconnecting the battery again, reconnecting it, then letting the car relearn the warm up parameters. Not that it will solve your problem, but it's a good starting point. just let the car sit and idle until both cooling fans kick on. Then go take it for a test spin.

Cool thanks. Will give that a try.

Will need to to try and sort this small blow around the bypass valve - would that be causing any issues?

Can you clarify what you are talking about better?

Sorry a friend posted this on my behalf and I'd probably describe it as a hesitation rather than a splutter. Felt a little like fuel starvation (reminded me of the time I lost power to my fuel pump on my 993)

Basically under hard acceleration the car would climb smoothly up to about 4/5 thousand RPM then suddenly lose power lurch forward, suddenly gain power again, lurch again etc... bunnyhopping really.

However I've taken the advice of disconnecting the battery and letting the car idle until the fans come on and it seemed to largely cure it. It is still doing it very occasionally but to a much lesser extent than before. Does feel like the ECU is becoming friends with the new exhaust.

Okay here are the things you need to check:

spark plugs - you could have one that is bad

spark plug wires - you could have one that's burned through and is shorting out

crank sensors - the crank sensors have had problems with the wiring on the plugs breaking, and or, oil/dirt on the sensors

Those are the easy ones to check, start with those and see what you come up with. Also if you do a search of the archives you'll be able to find other related threads.

I'd check coil packs too. These tend to go occasionally.
