Hay everybody, new to the forum, so hello!

Just purchased my first Ferrari, a 1998 GTS, Rosso with Crema sports seats and am totally over the moon - I've wanted to own a 355 for 8 or 9 years now and am finally living the dream!

Anyway, reason for posting is that I cant get into the storage compartment between the seats. The button depresses fully, but the lid won't open and I don't want to force it.

I've tried using the ignition key to unlock it, but it doesn't seem to fit.

    Any thoughts please?

    Thanks
    Phil

    Thanks Letsjet.

Are replacement keys available from Ferrari if at all or can I get one "aftermarket" with the right information on the car?

    Good question........... I'm not sure.

PM Jack Russell Racing and ask him. He might be able to get the key.

I did not get the compartment key when I bought my 355 spider but fortunatly the compartment was unlocked so I was able to remove the lock and bring it to a locksmith in the area. He was able to make a key to fit if from a small Fiat blank. With the compartment locked tight, you will have to bring the whole care to a locksmith to have them cut the key for you. Just tell them to start with Fiat key blanks starting with the smallest.

When you get it open you'll probably find the key inside. :):)

Thanks guys, interested in getting the locksmith to have a go ...

I'll get some good pictures taken and post them shortly!

  9. One thought, and it's just a thought... There may be just a few keys made for the lock in this location. You might want to call a dealer and see if they have a few you could try. It cannot hurt to call. Let us know what you come up with!

Congrats on the purchase! My storage compartment latch on the 348 sometimes gets stuck closed. It is not locked, and when the button is pushed the latch does not release. Try pushing down on the compartment lid while you push the button down pretty hard 5-10 times. The catch may release. I put some lithium grease in the mechanism and have not had probkems since then. I think my center compartment can be removed by lifting the whole part out (to take to a locksmith). I don't know if the same is true for the 355. Also, can you contact the seller about the key???

Been in contact with the garage I purchased the car from and they are going to speak to the previous owner about the key to see if it is knocking around his place somewhere - fingers crossed!

I also spoke to my local specialist and they seemed pretty sure to get into it, but weren't so sure on there being a limited combination of keys for the compartment - we'll still give it a go though. There aren't any corresponding number on the barrel of the lock to try to tie this into a specific key, so it will be just pot luck.

Will have a look into removing the entire comparment though as this would be easier to get into a lock smiths to have the key made up.

Nice one guys - appreciate it.

Just as an update, I'm loving the car so far, but am going to have to get used to driving it, particularly with regards performance.

I have traded up from an E46 M3 where the power delivery was more a smack in the back as opposed to the 355's smooth power over the rev range.

Also getting to grips with the rear engined set up as I've never really experineced this before, other than when driving borrowed 911's. The nose sometimes feels light in corners and as if it could "skip" if not careful.

I've ordered a knew gear knob from Hill Engineering to replace the old one (it was peeling a little) and a dead pedal too!

Looking into CF sills to replace the original ones and really like the ones with the metal inserts.

Sat Nav being purchased tomorrow ...

    Still smiling big time!!!

Unfortunatly, the compartment in a 355 will not come off unless you can open it. The screws securing it are in the inside of the compartment.

I dont think you get a seperate key code for the compartment key so maybe the compartment key can be ordered using the ignition key code!?
