If one of the thermocouples on a 355 5.2 system is reconnected after having the slow down light on will the light go out without resetting the ECU ?

Have been told by dealer technician yes & by specialist no .

Perhaps your quandry is a clear as you state, but one thing to keep in mind is the confusion on the later cars that can arise between the slowdown warning lights and the check engine warning lights. Brian's answer seems right to me within the strictness of your post, but perhaps one person didn't listen very carefully to your question or mixed the two system in their hasty recollection -- just a thought...

Give a little background on the problem -- is only one side being troublesome? With two independent thermocouple-slowdown systems on a 355 can't you do some swapping-unplugging-replugging-etc. and deduce the answers?
