Thanks-just wait'll you see it with some tall stacks stickin' up outa the bonnet!
How much time do you reckon you have into this project, and what exactly would be the results? Is there a substantial horsepower gain? I continue to be amazed at the work you have put into this.
I haven't tracked the time-not a lot of actual work and surprisingly little fabrication. Most of the parts are as they came from the factory on 355s. The horsepower gain I expect to be a large percentage of the difference in horsepower between a 348 and 355 with just the addition of the throttle bodies. Consider what other differences there are between the two motors. That and 5 valves per cylinder. Ferrari stayed with the 8 throttle bodies but not the 5 valves. 6 cubic inches difference accounts for around 10 of the horsepower, so the tb's must be a large part. The gain will be more pronounced with the future change to MAP sensor and velocity stacks on the tb's. I'm looking at the restriction of the MAF sensors as a weak spot where top end is lost. It's well known that the 95 355 with 2 MAFs makes more power than the later models with the restriction of only 1 with a smaller orifice than the total of the two. There's no more work in this than in any other hot rod project. The most time is consumed figuring it out. It remains to be seen if I'm right-I should say "we" because of all the help I've gotten from other members of this board who have encouraged me, helped me, and shared their knowledge.
I want to see if a bunch of ol' shade-tree mechanics and enthusiasts can come up with the same result! That said, it would be interesting to know what they did. Do you know how to contact them? Speak Italian?
Well I am amazed and impressed at this and would love to see what you are doing. I'll be in that area last week of this month. Up for a visitor?
Would love for you to stop by. With luck you'll be here when we fire it up! Maybe we'll have a stooge-in.
I'll send you a PM with my info. I'll join the stooge-in! cally it Larry, Moe, and Whirly if it starts!!!
Stooge in it is. I'm thinking along the lines of the end of next week, that way fatboy can join us. Shall we "Eat at Joe's" again?
I think I'll be ready and we should do one for the installation and subsequent fire-up (or troubleshoot, or fire). I'll be out of town from Dec 20-25. Machinist started the manifolds today, so they should be ready when I get back, if not before. Yeah, let's get all the stooges and whoever else to come by. Kind of a party! Breakfast, install, fire-up, beer, troubleshoot, beer, tell lies, troubleshoot, beer....
That might work for me but I'll confirm with the boss. Unfortunately I won't have a great deal of time, but I do want to see what you are doing. We'll be driving back from La Jolla on the 28th but I don't know at what time. Leaving La Jolla is always tough for us, but that will soon change permanently for us!
Moe here.....28th 29th 90% in. I'm skiing somwhere not sure exactly when. Hey 1/13/07 Arosc.org @ WSIR lets see that puppy run! Don't be a canyon poooooooser....come play with the men. I'm calling you out!
How about we move it to the 29th? That day will actually work better for me anyway. What do you guys say?
29th is fine. Here's a pic of the manifolds just to keep you interested. One side shows the shape of the intake ports and the other the throttle body ports. I think I've got all prepared. Note the little 1/8" pipe thread holes on the sides. Wonder what those could be used for??????????? Thinking of dyno-ing it before and after. Any idea how much that would cost? Could be any of those...just gonna put plugs in them for now. I'm an old guy with no experience with nitrous, but the idea intrigues me. Really just went ahead and put them in for future use if I decide to go that direction.
So for the *next* 348 Brother who follows in your footsteps...do you have a physical template of those manifolds (I'm presuming that you had those made recently for this project, specifically) or the emachineshop.com file for them so that I, er, whomever can knock 'em out fast and cheap?!
Holly Crap!!! They look f-en killer!!! Plugzit you have made tremendous progress!! Big whooooyaaaaa !!! So how many "dancing girls" would be apropriate for the starting party??? Oh yeah, dyno time?? I know of a few places in Huntington Beach. They used to charge $100 hr. back when I was making exhausts. It may be more now, the way it would be done is one hour before then go home install the goodies then come back another day and run a second hour. I am sure there may be a better way. We'll need to ask around. As for those small side ports??? I will go "all in" on MAP sensor!!!
29th is ok what time at plugzits? Plugzit...did you check to see if the NOS or other system has a fogger nozzle that is 1) long enough to get through 1/8npt and 2) threaded 1/8npt? BTW I have done lots of Nitrous and have a 5ft tall D cylinder in my garage. Did you check my other post on powercard extra fuel controler? Hey ND can you program in E-machine? I have not taken the time to figure it out but I want to make some monoball spherical suspension bushings. do you want to do this project with me?
Oh...a chassis dyno would be th hot ticket. But I do have a cheap ass Gtechmeter. I do not know how accurate it is but I think it is pretty good. I have 4 whell race scales so we could weight your car for an exact weight with you in it. The g-meter uses algorithims to take aceleration velocity mass etc and back calculate HP and G forces. Do you guys think this is accurate enough? Also, I have not busted Ernie's chops in a while. Hey Ernie are you going to drive your 348 down assuming it is working?
Plugzit do you want to get together tomorrow or next day to weigh and determine HP then 29th install the TB's and test? Too much to do in one day me thinks.
