I don't know if this is an easy fix, but today I was driving a 355 and as I was accelerating around an onramp, the gas pedal just dropped to the floor (it was a weird sensation, the pedal dropped from under my shoe); the engine went to idle and I was able to coast over to the side of the road. I had the car towed home, but it seems like somehow the linkage has disconnected or something (the pedal is still resting on the floor & the enigine sits at idle when running).
Is this something I can easily fix myself? (Otherwise I have to have it towed again)
    Is this common?

Sounds like something failed (cable maybe?), i have not heard of this before on 355's but that is not to say it has not happened before.

I would start by checking where the cable attaches to the throttle bodies and where it attaches to the pedal.

Great looking spider by the way. :)

Wow, that's scary. The throttle linkage is in the middle of the engine under the coolant reservoir. Take a look in there and post pics, I'm just about to reconnect my throttle linkage!

I can't see anything hanging down from under the car; I am hoping it is right behind the pedal (I am being optimistic becaus the pedal hasn't sprung back and I dont have a lift!). If it is how hard is that to get at? Is the connection below the floor under that sort of box that is at the base of the pedal?
Oh, thanks. It's a 96, 6 speed with 30,000km. As you guys know, it's a blast to drive!

The linkage is on top of the engine; in this pic with the clutter removed there's a steel cable that comes in from the firewall to the right of the PS reservoir, then wraps around the curved mechanism in the center. Check the pedal first, I'm not sure what that connection looks like. If that looks good, this is the other end to check out. Hopefully it didn't break, I can't imagine how to snake a new cable through. Of course anything can be done I guess, I just can't imagine it :))

Actually it isn't to difficult to do it is inside a metal tube. You can tie a string to the engine side of the old cable a pull it thru then attach the engine side of the string to the new cable and pull it thru the tube.
