    Has anyone used Mobil 1 synthetic transaxle oil in their 355's? I know quite a few are running Redline. There has also been some debate as to which Redline to use. If I don't use Mobil 1, what is the correct Redline to use?

    I believe this is listed in the 355 DIY section redline 75 90 but can't remember the sub model. Don't know about mobil

    Thanks Grant. I was wondering if anyone has used Mobil 1. My mechanic used this in a TR and 308. As far as Redline goes, there was some debate over which one was correct for the F355.

    Ya there's always a debate. Some feel quite strongly about diff oils. The reason I used redline even though I have a f1 was because of the many people with 348 and 355 tend to agree that on their gated shifters the transmission shifted smoother. Since I can not feel it due to the computer I figured smoother probably is better. Supposedly second gear when car was cold shifted noticeably rough but when they switched it shifted much better. I have no first hand exp however. I think even the 328 s were even more noticeable. Just my 2c

    I order mine from jegs because they ship everywhere and there pretty fast. Only bad part about redline.

    The cold shifting problem is the reason I wanted to go to a synthetic oil. Hoping to improve second gear's shifting ability.

    The correct RedLine product to use depends on how you are going to drive the car.

    If you drive the carlike an adult and the oil temperature never gets over 230dF you can get away with RL SuperLight Tranny oil.

    If you drive the snot out of it (back roads), but never see a race track, you an get away with RL Lightweight tranny oil.

    If your car sees race track duty you need the heavy (std weight--factory fill) stuff.

    Thanks guys for the information.

    Mitch, have you noticed a big difference in shifting when cold or hot between the superlight weight, light weight, and standard weight oils?

    I do not track the car. I tend to drive spirited, but like an adult most of the time.:) I do not drive the car within an inch of it's life.

    Jimmy. I changed mine a couple months ago. Mine always shifted smoothly in all gears and I never felt an issue.

    I used redline "s" and I just came back from a ride and I definitely have that tough to get in second when cold , etc.

    I don't know what was in the car as I got it that way but if I can figure that out I'm going back to it.

    Redline website says what I used is correct but it's not as smooth as it was for sure.

    Interesting Bob....I've always read that redline was the cure for 2nd shift issues. Never heard of these issues with an F1, I wonder if it still can be a problem?

    Redline makes two that are used in our cars. The shop I bought it from suggested the other , I went with the s one because the redline site said if was correct.

    I never noticed anything with shifting but do now.

    If I recall correctly, the NS stands for "non slip" or something similar. The 348 and 355 are limited slip. Is the NS really suitable??? Isn't the standard 75/90 (MT 90) better?

    Bob, my car shifts smoothly once warm, but I have to the 1st to 3rd gear change until it warms up. Its not a big deal, but if by changing to a different gear oil it would eliminate it or improve upon it that would be great. Let us know if you find out what was in your car previously. Like Dave said, I thought that the Redline was supposed to improve this problem. I was on their site today.

    I said S. I meant NS. That is what I have in the car now.

    Be specific if you're talking redline. NS and not NS.

    I don't know if I had the non NS redline before but the NS definitely needs to be warmed up to be effortless.

    the answer is to experiment with what your box wants used under the conditions you drive. don't be a lemming and just go with redline. as another poster wrote that was not the answer for him. Start with what is easily available in your area. the right fluid makes a huge difference. oh and M1 is my go to first because it is always available around me.

    FBB, I just didn't want to put anything in there that could potentially harm the gearbox.

    Bob, that was what I was posting about earlier. The debate where I've read some say put the NS in and others have put the non NS oil in. It is good to know that the NS needs to be warmed up first, so using that wouldn't change my current situation. Thanks.

    Got Mobile 1 75W90 in mine. Seems to work fine but to be honest I never pay much attention to the 1st-2nd shift since it's a long time characteristic of Ferrari gear boxes to be difficult when cold.

    Thanks Bob. The oil that you put in was recommended on their site. Maybe some members that used the non NS oil will post their experience.

    Well, everyone crapped all over me regarding the "warm the car up thread". I bet if you warm it up. you won't have this issue :)
