Does anybody know how the extra cat ecu/thermocouple works on the US version of the 5.2 355? I know the other two are to detect the overheat cat situation and activate the slow-down light, but the manual only says that this particular ecu on us version is used to control / lets the ecu know that the bypass valve is open. Is it also detecting overheat or simply relaying info on valve? If anybody knows, do you happen to know what voltage range does what?

To the best of my knowledge it is only detecting whether the exhaust bypass valve is open or closed when the Motronic expects it to be. If not, it throws a "check engine" light. I have no idea on the voltage parameters.

Thanks for the reply, I've installed a voltage divider and a potentiometer that varys it from 0 to 4 volts, I will be studying it. Also, can't find the thread but I had a P1447 and Ernie I think replied it could be the slow down light, sure 'nough, I fixed that one tonight, slow down light had been pulled. I'm currently tags expired status and can't pass emissions but am having success working my codes so far, backup plan is to register in an emissions free county.

Glad you caught that. Though 99% of the time "slow down" lights are inevitably a fault in the detection circuit, rather than a catalyst overheating, you really want to have the system operational...just in case. ;)
