    Spot on.

Also with all due respect it's very easy to say "just offer 40k less than asking.. They'll take it!" when your not in the market to buy one.

I wouldn't be overly dismissive of large price reductions upon negotiating for a purchase today. With the rapid month over month increases that had been seen in the market for various models, many (not all) fix their asks projected to tomorrow's pricing, with an understanding towards what the actual value to move it today is (and again, many but not all in this aspect). My own example was purchased in principle over the course of a 20 min discussion, at a $20k reduction from the ask, bringing it right in line with what was then the 'today' market.

Fair enough, though as Dave mentioned it really depends on many factors. Service, condition, dealer, private seller, model. etc. Implying everyone selling a car would "really" take 30K less than asking isn't exactly solid buying advice. I already mentioned in another thread that as prices rise more and more, new threads like this will pop up. And more and more members bash on rising prices. It happened with the 308 market 2 years ago..

Also adding to Dave's points, Brian, your car was a yellow spider with higher mileage. Yellow spiders are a bit harder to sell and I also don't remember if yours needed a major or not.

Adding to all of that is the fact that you live in Montana. Getting a PPI done out there is a huge hassle and that's part of the reason many people were put off.

No, just no...you can't just ship that car over here and pay 2k for the shipping and be done with it. It's a lot more impossible than that.

And that's closer to 80k USD

That's correct. 70k euros is closer to 80k usd then shipping. And good luck finding what else it needs from way over here.

    I'm glad I bought my 33k mile '97 Rosso Corsa Berlinetta 6 years ago for <$50k. :)

Now every year when my Grundy policy is due I up the value about $10k. It will click over 38k miles in the next few drives.

Holly Christ thats an exaggeration, I said $25k top end. :) It's called negotiating. And was dealing on several in the last couple months, see below.

I'm not taking what I was saying from the recent sale of my spider but I did talk to a lot of other spider sellers at that time too just about how they were moving in general. (not good)

What I have been involved in in the last few months is trying to find a Berlinetta for my little brother. He has never been a car guy and is horribly un-mechanical although he really wants to start learning. But I really got him hooked on the 355, so him being completely new to the car scene, I have been on the search and dealing for him.

I've spoke to about 15 355 B sellers, all cars under 30k miles. I had two sellers drop their asking price by $10k before I even gave a number on my side.

Right now we are at 99% go on a 98 gated B that was asking $85k and will sell to him for $69k. I'll ask my brother if it is cool if I spill all the details on the deal. I'm sure he wont care, might want to wait until it is 100% though. I'll let you know.
