355 vs 348 for purchase?

    I chose the 355 over the 348 and I'm paying for it dearly with over 40k in repairs over the last 23k miles, but I still prefer the 355 over the 348 even now.

    The 355 is a maintenance nightmare if you've owned one for 30k+ miles, so those of you who have and have not had troubles, please chime in, because I've never met you. Of the 348s that I know, maintenance has been a LOT less, but they're also not as fast or handle as well.

    Seems like an obvious choice if money is your issue. If passion is your issue, choose the one you like the best...

    And you haven't started turning your own wrenches why????????

    If I had taken my 348 to the dealer for all the stuff I have done to it, I would have easily been close to that figure. Especially since I just finished rebuilding the tranny.

    I'm telling you guys, doing your own work will cut the cost of repairs by about 2/3rd's.

    Well- I would like to have time to turn my own wrenches, but there is a limited amount of that and to add to it, the time to learn all about a new machine. I use to rebuild motorcycle engines, but with simple carburetors and a light and exposed engine, it was easy. This machine is probably way out of my ballpark and the time to do it is also prohibitive.

    Simple things like brake work and electrical I could probably do. Does the 348 still sound as good if I don't do all that work?

    There's a 348 maintenance thread around here somewhere in which a dealership charged $4,450 for a clutch job.

    Doing it yourself (easy to do and reach, you can see the clutch pumpkin from the rear of every 348) can cost as little as $750 (new slave/throwout bearing, clutch resurfaced rather than replaced, new seals, new tranny fluid).

    You'll get far more out of your car if you do your own work simply because you'll get to know her better. It definitely ups the passion.

    But stroking checks is fine, too. Do what's right for you.

    Or befriend a Ferrari Tech and have him do the work on his own time, typically techs are allowed to work on their own or friends cars one night a week depending on the shop.
