I own a 355. What is the difference between the 355 and the 360 aside from the leather and sheetmetal. I know a lot of people like the sound of the 355 and some say the looks of the 355 is more true of the classics Ferrari's. I have questions about ride, quality, relibility and so on.
Not quite sure of the details, but i'm pretty sure the undertray of the 360 produces a lot more down force than the 355, which should improve drivability.
I recall a 5th gear review of the 360 that said that the 360 deffinetly generates alot more downforce. I have a feeling alot of the people who dont like the look of the 360 are older Ferrari fans, as it is was a diversion from what was considered the Ferrari "norm" as far as looks. I personally love it, I think its one of the most beautiful, sleek, and agressive looking cars ever built, but then again I'm new to Ferraris.
What is the difference between the 355 and the 360 ------------------------------------------------------ 5 .............LOL Sorry I had to! These two cars are worlds apart in look ,feel. technology, handling computerwise. My mechanic went thru an hour describibing "some" of the differences. The cost of course is much different "purchase and repair"
360 is faster on the track...not sure if u would really notice it much on the street or a sprint to 80 MPH...but who care about doing that in a ferrari anyway... to me the 355 with tubi is one of the best sounds in life.... i love the 360 but the 355 is nicer to look at it... 355 is also cheaper... get both!
The 360 is easier to get in and out than the 355 360 interior is more roomy (When the car was introduced it was said that you can fit a golf bag behind the rear seats) 360 is quicker and has more torque 360 F1 gearbox is said to be much better than 355 (cant confirm because I have only driven 6 speed 355's) 360 has drive-by-wire These are just a few differences.
Fundamentally, the 355 represented a very extensive reworking of the 348. The 360 is new from the ground up, although the 360's engine is a development of the 355's. The higher mileage generally on used 360s indicates that they are really usable cars. 360 uses more aluminium than the 355. Similar weight though to 355 because 360 is bigger inside and out 360 has traction control, not on 355 360 has more power and torque 360 apparently has trickier on-limit handling than the 355, but better grip. You can't get a 360 GTS, only berlinetta or spider. Subjective stuff- the 360's styling has courted more controversy than the 355- but make your own judgements. It certainly represented a departure because the buttresses, there since the Dino, were replaced by a fast-back rear. The 360 has a glass panel over the engine, which is just wonderful. Some say the 355 sounds better, again make your own judgements. I think a 360 with a Tubi sound great. In standard form they sound a bit more synthetic than a 355. Robert.
If you're in the market for one of them, you really must get as much time behind the wheel of both as you can as they're very different cars in many respects. Seconds difference on the racetrack doesn't necessarily equate to much on the road, and the driver can make so much more of a difference in this respect that it becomes largely academic. Aesthetics and noise cannotbe ignored as, let's face it, it's rather a large part of what ownership is about. The 360 absolutely must have a Tubi on it to sound decent, and preferably be decatted too. And even then I personally think the 355 sounds better when equally equipped (makes me giggle and my neck hair stand on end every time I gun it) - if you have a broadband connection, I posted this link elsewhere: http://homepage.mac.com/ajm7/iMovieTheater2.html Sound quality isn't perfect, but it gives a flavour. Neither is a bad car, so have a goood look at them both and do what everyone should with these cars - go with your heart!
Awesome soundtrack! I am quite thrilled with the sound of a stock 355, which I have not had for very long, but as soon as I take it for granted, the Tubi will go on. RD
i have owned both a 355 spider and 360 spider at different times.. they are very different cars... the 360 is 15% lighter and much stiffer ..40%.chassis due a ll aluminum chassis and frame and body.....more hp and mid range torque in the 360 and it feels quicker and is quicker..better handling and steering inthe 360,...much better ergonomics in the 360, the pedal position is much better.. the 6 speed is a big improvement..the interior is much nicer and larger in the 360. both cars sound wimpy to me with out a tubi...both sound great with a tubi or the like.....the engine in the 360 is beautiful to look at and the glass cover is way cool....overall the 360 is a more comfortable , faster, better car... much more modern.. also the top on the 360 spider is way better than the 355top , which is a piece of c**p!!! with all this said, its going to cost about 70 k to up grade to a 360... is it worth it? though to say....the 355 is better for the money but the 360 is a much better car....
Sadly my other half wouldn't play for more than that one tunnel. Some of the others were even better as they were better lit, more lightly trafficked, not as wet and straighter. Which meant more gears, more downshifting with blips and the whole lot. Until passenger noted she felt a bit sick I simply cannot help the grin when I hear that car!
Over the past 10 years I have had an insane addiction to sports cars, which I am now finally getting out of. I had, in order: '89 911 Cab '95 911 C4 Cab '96 F355 Spider '98 Diablo SV Coupe '97 550 Maranello '00 911 C4 Cab '01 Aston Martin DB7 Vantage Volante '01 360 Modena (F1) '02 Maserati Spyder Cambiocorsa '03 911 Turbo '01 550 Maranello I drive these cars, averaging about 8K a year on my "toys". Tastes change over the years, and I do believe (at least for now) that the current 550 is a keeper. But my reason for posting is this: my favorite car of the bunch, easily and without question, was the 355 Spider. I can't even quantify why.
Probably, I've considered that. And it may have alot to do with styling, especially the interior. I've NEVER liked the 360 interior, even when I owned one. All the aluminum accents never worked for me.
Boy, are you in the minority on that one (not that there's anything wrong with that). Most of those who prefer the 355 exterior say they like the 360 interior better. Gary
Here's a good article which describes the 360 Modena, there are some references to F355: http://autozine.kyul.net/html/Ferrari1.htm I have driven F355s and there is no way it compares to 360M. Modena is an intense car where as the F355 is more tamed while powerful it does not have the same agility and pull.
Could some knowledgable people comment on the paddles on the 355 vs. the 360? I heard that the paddles on the 355 are fixed at 9 and 3 O'Clock, but the paddles on the Modena move with the steering wheel. Are those facts true? And if so, could we see some comments about the advantages vs. disadvantages of having the paddles fixed vs. moving with the steering wheel, likes vs. dislikes, preferences, etc. Thank you!
Man, if the paddles didnt move in the 355, that must have been a bastard to reach around to make a shift comming out of a curve.
The 360 paddles stay in a fixed position all the time. I like the F1 gearbox, it makes it so easy to drive the car. The only complaint I would have is when you are trying to park the car and only want to move a few inches, its not the same as a regular auto where you keep your foot on the brake and let the car roll.
I felt the 360 was "lighter" off the ground under power because the 355 sits lower. Speaking of sitting lower I whacked my 355 the first day I owned it. 355 as a car to buy requires a more suspicious eye as turned back or un-hooked speedos are not un-common. I've seen a number of them. The interior controls are not as nice on the 355. Flatter dash means more reach. Getting to the radio means leaning forward. The 355 is more intense due to lower sense of mass
