I'm a buying a 355 next week, provided the ppi checks out ok. Its a 97 spider with 12xxx miles on it. Service history is fine, its due for a belt service since the 15000 mile was done about 3 years ago. What are some things i need to look for in the tests numbers that'll be run on it, particullary the red flags. This will be my first 355, so i'm a nervous about this. Any help or advice you guys can give me is greatly appreciated!

I'm sure the 355 owners will chime in, but nice even compression test results are important on any Ferrari engine.

The 355 also has several trouble areas, well-documented in this forum (manifolds and valve guides being the big ones). If it's a spider, you'll want the complicated power top mechanism checked out thoroughly. If it's an F1, you'll want to know whether that is due for service (clutch there as well).

As far as i am aware the F1 option became available late 97, not sure if there were any delivered to the US in 97 though. Mine was not a NZ delivered car.

Wouldn't that have made it a 98 model. It looks like the 110xxx + had the F1 option. Maybe different countries had different standards for the classification of a model year. I thought my 97 was one of the later US models in the 97 model year at 109097. More proof that Ferrari pretty much just does whatever they want.
