I saw a post with a link a while back and it referenced a German company I think which designed and built the system we use on our cars. Did many searches and can not find it any one know what their name was.

I think it was made by someone else that marelli bought. I thought I added the link but somehow I lost it. It had descriptions of how it was developed and had pictures of the 355 and the system, it had breakdowns of the parts etc. it was definately an old post and within it it did say it was sold to magneti marelli I thought. Very similar pictures to what's in our manuals and some were exactly the same. Can't find this in the magneti marelli website

While its convenient to mention Magneti Marelli as the 'inventor' of the automated manual transmission (AMT) used in passenger cars it gets complicated to understand exactly whom really did the work. MM certainly license the tech out to manufacturers.
According to my research Hydraulic-Ring Germany (since acquired by hilite) claim the to have been the inventor but the hydraulics also seem to come from others such as Mannesmann Rexroth (whom in 2001 merged with Bosch). This makes sense since they developed the first proportional valve electronics combining hydraulics with electrics in the mid 70's.

Frank- Nice document, thanks. Mannesmann had its fingers in a lot of automotive pies. The shocks on 575s are Mannesmann Sachs.
