    Hello, I am new to fchat. My 360 grinds going into 3rd. However when going slow or while car is at rest 3rd gear is fine. From this description anyone have a thought if this is shift linkage issues or trans issue? Thank you.

    Symptom seems consistent with a worn syncro for 3rd.

    I experienced this problem on one occasion while on track - 2nd to 3rd and also 4th to 3rd. it was a reasonably mild day - circa 18 celsius and coolant and oil temps were both normal. If I changed gear a little more slowly and carefully matched the revs it wasn't a problem.

    Worn synchro ring is the most obvious conclusion but that said a change to a different grade of gear oil (or even just a change if it's been a while) would be the first thing to try. Some gear oils are more beneficial to the synchro rings, others more beneficial to the LSD plates.

    As it happens the problem did not manifest itself at a subsequent track day so I've done neither yet!

    If I have to replace the 3rd gear synchro, any recommendation on good trans work outside of a dealership?
